Did your computer come with a recovery disc, Windows disc or have you create a recovery set of discs?

If after reading all of this you find yourself overwhelmed or unwilling to try, take it to a shop.

Another option to the below copied from the Help section to reach the Recovery would be to open the Control Panel. If Category view, under System and Security, select Back up your computer, then Recover system settings, **Then Advanced recovery methods. If in Icon view, select Recovery and you will be at the ** above. There's where the discs above will come into play. If.you don't have any of those, you will have to hope they have a hidden partition on the drive containing the recovery which will either show itself there or in the F8 process below..

To open the System Recovery Options menu on your computer 1. Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer using the computer's power button.
2. Do one of the following:
*If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.
*If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to repair, and then press and hold F8.
3. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Repair your computer, and then press Enter. (If Repair your computer isn't listed as an option, then your computer doesn't include preinstalled recovery options, or your network administrator has turned them off.)
4. Select a keyboard layout, and then click Next.

I NEED A RECOVERY DISC FOR GATEWAY LAP TOP IT HAS WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM IT IS BRAND NEW I DOWN LOADED A PROGAM IT MESSED IT UP

a lot of computers don't come with a recovery disk.
The System Recovery Options menu in Windows contains several tools that can help you recover Windows from a serious error. You can perform repairs to the files that Windows uses to start itself, perform a restore operation using System Restore, and restore your entire computer and system files using backups that you have made previously.
Note
  • If your computer does not include the System Recovery Options menu, your computer manufacturer might have provided other recovery options. Check the information that came with your computer or go to the manufacturer's website for more information.
  • If your computer has preinstalled recovery options:
    1. Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer.
