I have a gas dryer...it starts up fine, but the flame only lasts a few minutes before it goes out Then I can't get it to "fire up" again for several minutes
Try shorting out the Hi-limit sensor(Lg calls it that, don't know for whirlpool). See if that does anything. If it fixes that, don't leave it like that. replace it and the other fuse by it as well.

Hello, Their are 2 possibilities, based on exactly what is happeninh with your dryer. 1) If after the igniter came on,it stay on for 30 seconds to 1 minute and went off,but there was no flame as soon as the igniter went off? IF that is what your seening the coilds that open the gas valve are the problem. They are the 2 pod things on the top of the gas valve one of them has a plug with 2 wires on it,the other has a plug with 3 wires.IF no flame after the igniter went out those coils need to be replaced.
2) If the igniter came on and STAYED on and never went off within 1 minute? for that since the igniter never turns off. The problem will be the flame switch. Its the black rectangle box mounted to the outside of the burner cone and has 2 wires attached to it.If the igniter did NOT go off the flame switch will be needed

does the igniter glow white or orange? if it is orange you need to replace it. has to be white hot to ignite. if the igniter is white it could be the coils not opening the gas valve all the time - an intermittent problem.
Watch the
igniter. Does it glow bright orange, then shut off without igniting the
gas? (When the gas ignites there's a large blue flame.) If so, there
may be defective coils on the gas valve. Mounted on the top of modern
gas valves, there are black electrical coils. The coils, when
energized, open the gas valve. If one or more of the coils are
defective, the valve doesn't open and the gas cannot ignite. Because
it's often difficult to properly test the coils, it's usually best to
replace both (all) of them at the same time.
