Need service manual or instructions on replacing hard drive on a Sony Viao VGN-ns135e or Sony VGN-NS100 Series Laptop

  • Anonymous Nov 30, 2009

    Sony's website does not offer instructions on replacing a hard drive. They only offer instructions on repacing the optical drive. The unit has to be disasembled to access the hard drive bay.

    www.sony.com has those sort of things by model number

The hard drive is inside of the laptop and not accessible from the outside. The way to get to the hard drive is to take out all the screws from the bottom of the laptop, take the keyboard out and there may be some screws there that need to be removed. The dvd drive needs to come out and where the dvd drive normally is, check for screws there.

At this point you can remove the top cover assembly and you will see the hard drive. Remove the screws that are holding the hard drive in place and then it will come out.

Testimonial: "Thanks I realize that the unit needed to be seperated however without a service manual there may be some important tips that could be missed."

    For this particular model, VGN-NS135ES, the laptop can only be accessed from the bottom. No need to remove the keyboard.
    1. Remove the battery;
    2. Remove the memory cabin's lid;
    2. Remove all the visible screws from the bottom (2 under the battery, 1 in the memory cabin);
    3. The bottom cover is removable now; there are extra 2 screws that lock the hard drive caddy need to be removed;

    During the process, no cable needs unplug.

Take to a shop or friend that works on laptops. If you have to ask, you shouldn't try.

Sony vaio vgn series laptop - when xp os loading blue screen appears and display the msg hard disk drive not detected.

system not found in my experience generally leads to a damaged or loose hard drive, try to open the cover at the bottom side of the machine, and reseat the hard drive, if it still says system not found, get a 2.5 inch drive case, put your laptop drive in the case and connect it to another machine, if you can access the drive great! save all your files and once complete return the drive to your machine and try to reinstall the OS from a dvd then reinstall your files.. and if still having the same problem replace hard drive thanks.

You can refer the Service Manual for the VGNT series Models as all the Models have same Service Manual.

I need to know the pixels for a sony viao vgn-430d screen

You should be able to find the proper LCD screen, by the LCD screen size, whether it is a widescreen or not, and whether or not it's a matte finish.
I need the exact model number. The Vaio VGN-430d does me no good. Suggest you look on the bottom of the laptop. There may, or may not be a Service Tag.
Look for something like VGN-NR , and a number.
What you may see on the side of the LCD screen, or on the body of the laptop, is just part of the VGN series.
