Maytag Plus side by side refrigerator stops cooling. I unplugged it for 24 hours. When I plugg it back in, it works fine for about 2-3 months. Then it stops again and works fine after being unplugged for 24 hours. Why does it keep doing this and how can I fix it?

Send me your model number. You have either a fan stopping when it should be running or a defective control board. But really with Maytag it depends on the model number to put my finger on it. Sea Breeze

Take food out of the freezer, take out the racks, take off the back panel on the bottom/back ( probably 4-6 screws).. You will see a fan. If that fan has ice around it, then take it all off, chip it, hair dryer, what ever you want. Unplugging it for 24 hours is not enough for all of the ice to melt so it is probably taking a couple months to build back up. Generally this happens in a high humidity time of the year. It will probably happen again, do not freet. Just clean it again. I know one customer that had it happen two years in a row and that was about four years ago. He has had the unit (Maytag Plus side by side refrigerator) about 10 years and is just fine with it. Little inconvience, but sometimes that is the breaks in life. Good luck.... Hi Kim, Before you check out the link below, Read about your refrigerator not cooling? Is your older or newer model refrigerator plugged in, getting power, the lights are on inside but the fridge will not cool and the freezer won't freeze? If your refrigerator or freezer has suddenly stopped cooling and the freezer won't freeze, we have multiple solutions for you.If you hear a clicking sound coming from the back of your refrigerator/freezer, then the problem is most likely the compressor is overheating or not getting proper power and will not start. The compressor is the component on your refrigerator that allows your refrigerator to cool. If this component is not working properly your refrigerator will stop cooling. Most of the time the compressor is not the component that has failed.

How do I get my maytag side by side refrigerator model# msd2756geq to cool down below 50

first turn your refrigerator temp setting to 1 then wait for the compressor to kick off, this will send the unit into defrost mode, and most units take between 1 to 2 hours to acclimate(get tempered) correctly. after a few hours gradually turn your unit towards 9 until the compressor kicks on, when it does , stop turning the knob, it will acclimate again, 1-2 hours (some units can acclimate in 15 minutes) check your unit temp and do not use the unit if it won't cool down to 43 or less degrees, you run the chance of food poisoning. hope this was helpful.

Refrigerator does not work

the harm that might have been caused as that the compressor oil may have been directed into the refrigerant lines, thereby contaminating the system. If you left it unplugged for 24 hours after laying it on its back, the oil would have all gone back into the compressor. If you refrigerator has now stopped cooling, im sorry to inform you, but you have to replace your your condenser and evaporator coils, your gas dryer, and possibly even the compressor itself, basically your entire sealed refrigerant system. at that point, you could buy 2 refrigerators.

Stopped cooling but i can hear running . Unplugged for 24 hours and plugged back in but coil inside freezer is not cooling. I can see the fan in the freezer running. It was working fine two days ago.

The overload/relay is probably bad .This is the part plugged onto the compressor , with 2 or 3 wires plugged onto it . You can easily replace this part . Be sure to have your model number when ordering .

Freezer works frige dont unplug for an hour then it works .

I would suggest check the coils to make sure they are clean . Also check the fan which cools the compressor to make sure it is working . When you unplug , it gives the compressor time to cool down a bit , but after it restarts , it will get hot again and stop cooling .

MAYTAG PLUS, MOD MZD2766GE STOPPED COOLING ON THE RIGHT SIDE,

After they replaced the part did they defrost the unit. there is probably ice build up on the coil behind the service panel in the freezer compartment. If the defrost control was the part replaced you can probably push the refrigerator side light switch in and out 5-6 times and force a defrost. if the unit goes into defrost then all the components are fine and you just need to manually defrost the coil either by off loading all food and leaving the unit off for 4-6 hours with doors open. of offloading freezer side remove rear access cover in freezer exosing evaporator coils and use a hairdryer to defrost the ice accumulation. good luck Peyton

Maytag wide by side.

If it happens again, check the defrost timer. If it does not self defrost, the cooling coils (evaporator) get plugged with ice and although it is frozen, the ice stops the transfer of heat. Unplugging the unit allowed it to defrost so air could circulate again.
