I have a John Deere X300 garden tractor. When going into reverse the deck blades stop cutting unless you pull up on the switch. We have no little kids so safety is not an issue. How do you get around this? It's very aggravating!

I have a John Deere X300 lawn tractor with an intermittent starting problem. From time to time, when you turn the key all you get is a click. Battery is connected, headlights work, but starter will not turn. Keep turning key off and on and eventually it starts. Other times, it starts just fine. What parts should I start replacing?

On the X300 the reverse switch is under the right foot rest, you can see it if you move the reverse pedal. It is rivited on a bracket, a 10mm bolt holds the bracket to the tractor. Remove the bolt and the switch and bracket can be lifted off, leave it hang and you can now mow in reverse. Any legal problems just claim the bolt must have fallen out:) Save the bolt if you change your mind.

Well it is a saftey feature but the switch is in the linkage and needs to be unpluged or jumpered. My neigbor has an X300R that has been bypassed. He go the info off the net somewhere. I have bypassed all my blade switches that I operate. I do however leave the seat and clutch switch. I thought that had a bypass switch on the dash???

SOURCE: The deck blades stop turning in reverse unless switch is pulled.

This is a safety feature that is not that hard to do so i say live with it.You do'nt have to hold it up just pull it up before you start backing up and once your moveing you can let go without it shutting off the deck until the pedel returns to neutral again, all tractor have it by law after a certain date so jumping around it is niot a good idea.

Mower leaves strip of grass unmowed in center of deck. This is a model X300 with newly sharpened blades

Check the center blade to make sure it spins freely when the deck belt has been removed. The spindle may have frozen up.

I just bought an old John Deere 68 riding mower but it does not cut grass even though the blade spins when engaged. I made sure the blade was on correctly but it still doesn't cut. I noticed the pulley...

Are you sure it is the correct blade and when it is turning the sharp edge is on the leading side? A spinning blade will cut grass even if the blade is dull. Did you lower the deck to the correct level?

John deere mower stopped cutting

it could be a few different things it depends on if it is a electric clutch or manual for engaging the deck. It also could be a bad pulley on the deck

Blade on John Deere L110 will not shut off

Check the cable that runs from the acuating lever to the tensioner pulley on your deck it could be broken or frayed. also check the plastic holder on the deck end of the pulley, it fits in a small groove in a brace on the deck and is held in place by a tractor pin. when they removed your deck to sharpen the blades they may not have re-connected it properly or the plastic holder may be broken and not allowing the proper tension on the cable. if your tractor is equipped with a PTO switch near the lever check the connections and the continuity of the switch...hope this helps.... ;-D

Have a john deere lawn tractor. Blade will not

Check both belts on deck. Check if the clutch is clicking in. If not it will most likely need a new pto switch.
