Sony KP-53XBR45 with no sound from internal speakers...can output to external stereo amp and have sound. Unit was working and heard a ''pop''...then no sound...no burned smell or obvious burned components.

Good Day;
On that model look for a small yellow cap, half the size of coin, dime. LOOK very closely and you will see a small burnt spot on the cap. The TV uses about 4 of them, they are 120/110 @ 2 kv. There are located in the high voltage circuit.
This the most common, it could be flyback or HV devider.

Check convergence board for possible blown fuses.

You may have a bad convergence... short will shutdown your HV circuitry leaving just audio?
It has no bulb to change?
