Slow speed unattainable

Hi there...

I live in Australia and own a 240V Kitchenaid mixer and the slow speed always creeps up and it does not maintain a Speed 1/Stir speed. I've tried adjusting the speed plate and it won't slow down. Is it the fault of the governor, speed plate or phase control... Hope you could help and your time spent is much appreciated...

Thank you

I still have 5 speeds, but the speeds are much faster than they were before. Speed 1 is now about the speed of speed 3. Any ideas or suggestions?

    Thanks.

KSM150PSOB speed 5 and up work. Mixer will not run on low speed settings. Do I need the speed control switch" #PS889134? How difficult is this part to install.

SOURCE: won't shift speeds

ok so the set-up looks sortof like this (lets hope the formatting of this website/your computer doesn't mess it up...)
       C           D
        /  /    \  \   \/                                    |    | ___   /\ |    |   <B
  A
A is the rivet holding the arm to the plastic body B is the contact with a little tab. C is the copper arm D is the arm's contact
there is a copper arm (C) that has a contact on one end (D).  If this contact is ALWAYS open (should only be open when mixer is off) it is either bent (carefully reform) or has come loose at the rivet marked A.  On mine, the rivet at postn. A had come loose, i simply rotated it so that the contacts touched and super-glued the copper to the plastic (which should be rivited).
Since the copper was not discolored, I knew that the temps should not be too high for the super glue to handle (not in my opinion anyway).

I have the same problem. I contacted KitchenAid they blew me off with
"I am sorry to have learned you are experiencing problems with your KitchenAid product.
Your model and serial number indicate that your 2005 model Stand Mixer is outside of the warranty period, however you may find the part or repair for your appliance locally by contacting an authorized repair center in your area. SOURCE: Kitchenaid K5A mixer 10 speed only runs on fast, no slow speed

Pull the back off and there will be two screws at the top of the Speed Control Plate and a 3rd screw at the bottom. Tighten the top two screws down. [email protected]. Let me know if it works.

SOURCE: KitchenAid 2671 onmly run Stir and Second at high speed

Hi. Goto kitchenaid.com and download the parts catalog for your mixer model, these drawings will assist you in the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer.

You'll need to replace the speed control in your mixer. This is a common problem. Be prepared to wait at least a month for your parts to arrive. Unplug your mixer before you open it up.

If you're still under warranty call kitchenaid!

If this solution has assisted you, please rate it. Good luck! ricardok45

SOURCE: Kitchenaid stand mixer will not stay in the off position.

There is a spring, item #4, which hooks on to the bottom of the control plate, item # 25, and pulls it back when you move the lever to off. Remove the rear cover and see if that spring is still connected to the control plate and to the lever arm, Item # 3. Here is the diagram:

Kitchenaid mixer going too slow

You need the Service Manual which shows how to adjust the speed. You will be working in the vicinity of live 120 volts if you do this. Be very careful. You can download the Service Manual from:

Our K5SS 300 watt mixer (30-40 years old) does not have a really slow speed anymore. We used it with the vegetable grinder accessory and when we were done it would not go slow on the slow speed. It went as...

the speed setting is in the speed control unit which by your statement is now broken
no parts around for the lovely old reliable machine which is now close to junk
take it to an appliance repair shop as they may have spare from another machine or can repair the fault

I need instructions to use my new kitchen aid attachment

Hi. Basically all you really need to know is to start the machine at a slow speed, begin shredding, increase speed to a point where the machine is not labouring. Next time you use that attachment, set it for that speed. Different attachments and the foods they process load different stresses on the mixer. Always use a speed that is one step above/below the labouring sounds. Kitchenaid doesn't see fit to publish these instructions online as they do their other manuals. Another missed opportunity by Kitchenaid. You might want to check out the kitchenaid forum. one of these people just might have it in digital form. Good luck! ricardok45

I bought the slicer and shredder set for the KitchenAid stand mixer, no instructions were in the box. What speed do I use the attachments on?

Your attachment speed will depend on what it is you're slicing or shredding. Begin at speed setting two and work up to the speed where the motor begins to labour, then reduce the speed by one notch. Always start too slow, then move up. If you find this solution usefull, please rate it. Good luck. ricardok45

Kitchenaid 250 watts k4ss mixer

The repair manual says that the mixer can make this grinding sound at slow speed, like stir or 2. This is normal, especially until it warms up. This is the sound of the gears turning at slow speed.
