I have Insignia media player NS-2V17. The computer is not recognizing it. says it is an unknown device (I have Windows XP, Saervice Pack 3). I tried the solution given here (http://www.fixya.com/support/t1505889-computer_not_recognize_insignia_ns_2v17) without success. The step that was problematic was finding 'portable devices' under device manager. I did not have that option. Please help.

I can not turn on my INSIGNIA NS-8V24, it does not answer. When I conect it in the computer a mesagge asking me the drivers appears and I am using WINDOWS XP. What can I do?
I had a similar problem. Try holding the power button, or slider, for 20 seconds. Then turn it on. If this does not work, try connecting it to your PC.
To make it work you have to change it to MSC mode (Only for Windows XP and 2K, it somewhat technical so do it at your own pace and follow instruction:
Click on the Start button and Select Settings. Then click on Control Panel.
Double click System, and then select the Hardware tab.
Click on Device manager.
Click on the '+' for Portable device and you will see "Insignia Video Player".
Right click and select "Update driver".
A Hardware Update Window will open, Select "No, not this time" when windows asks to search for software.Click next.Check the "Install from a list or specific location" checkbox and then click next.
On the next screen select "Don't Search. I will choose the driver to install".
Click next and then you will see a window showing two drivers that are compatible with your player.
To put the device into MSC mode select "USB Mass Storage Device" and click next.
A finish installing driver will appear and your device will now appear as a hard drive on your system.
To switch back to MTP mode, open the device manager as above and click on the "+" for "Universal Serial bus controllers" and you will see "Insignia Video Player".
Then follow the steps above until you reach the "Select the device driver..." screen in which you select "MTP device".
Then click next and your device will be reset back into MTP mode.
The problem is after service pack 3, xp pro does not recognize MTP devices any longer
Click on the Start button and Select Settings. Then click on Control Panel.

Click on the '+' for Portable device and you will see "Insignia Video Player".

On the next screen select "Don't Search. I will choose the driver to install".
Click next and then you will see a window showing multiple drivers, Select the "Portable Devices" driver and you can select MTP or USB mass storage.
Select "USB Mass Storage Device" and click next.
XP will finish installing the driver and you MP3/video player will appear and your device will now appear as a hard drive(s) (if you have a memory card) on your system.
Windows Media Player and other application will now recognize your device.
burn the music you PAID for to a cd then rip it back to the system and use Windows Media Player 11 to sync the files to the device (only works if you have a burn feature in rhapsody)
Windows Media Player will see it all the time and is more compatible then Rhapsody with the device
No drivers should be needed for the Insignia® NS-DV2G MP3 player as long as you are running Windows ME-2000 or later. Drivers for Windows 98SE are available on the Insignia website at http://www.insignia-products.com/t-Win98SEUSBDriver.aspx.
There shouldn't be any driver software on a CD for this player. If you need the Digital Music Store, go here: http://rhapsody-usa.com/best-buy/
If your computer is still able to recognize the player, you can still manually place music files on the player by switching the player to File&Folder mode.
