Need to hook up Belkin G wireless router to Motorola SB5120

I just dumped my very unreliable DSL modem and got a cable modem (Motorola SB5120). The new cable modem doesn't have as many ports on the back as the DSL did.

The Motorola cable modem has an Ethernet port and a USB port. That's all, except for the cable coax and the power supply, of course.

Between computer, modem, and router, which cables go where?

Thanks.

Hello, glad to find this post, I'm also in need of connecting a router to use my laptop wi-fi...but I don't see mention of connecting the router itself in this scenario. My Cable connection is fine between modem and host pc, and need to know is connecting the router as simple as hooking it to the USB port of the Modem? am new to this, so please excuse any ignorance 8^)

Plug your cable line into your modem, make sure it's tight, but don't use a tool. Next plug the ethernet line from the modem to your PC ethernet port. Then plug in your power to the modem. Allow your modem to sync. Don't use the USB line at all. Do not even hook it up unless your computer doesn't have a working ethernet line. Don't run the disk either, it will only install the modem driver that is only used if you use USB.

If you have issues connecting after that, you may have to go into your ethernet adapter settings and make sure that it is using DHCP. DSL usually uses a different setting (PPP I think) and you will not be able to connect.

By the way, excellent choice in modems.

Can't get a wireless router to work with a speedstream 4200

This may actually be an issue with your ISP. There is a good possiblity that your ISP has bound your connection to the MAC address of the network card on your computer. This is a common occurance which is why router manufacturers give you the option of having your router clone your computer's MAC address. Go into your router's management an perform the clone, sorry I cannot give you more details but I don't know the specific model of your Belkin router.
