Error Message: PXE-E61 Media Test Failure Check Cable

I have been getting this error: Error Message: PXE-E61 Media Test Failure Check Cable I have done all the usual things, changed the boot order and made the hdd primary. I disabled the network adaptor boot from the bios set-up and checked that my hdd is recognised in bios setup and it picks up the wdc rom model scorpio --- (pm), so this means the hdd is working but when i save the changes and reboot all i get is a black screen and it does not boot anything. could anyone help with this? i have a compaq presario m2000. thanks.

The system is not finding any bootable media (Hard Drive) and is attempting to boot via the network card (PXE Boot) the error message is saying that there is not PXE network to boot from and it is exiting the process.
Generally, this is caused by a hard Drive failure. Reseat the drive and or drive connections and see if the system will find the hard drive.

PXE-E61 Media test failure

See this on-line thread from other users. I'd be leary about the posts that advocated hitting the laptop...

Portable computers can suffer from bad connections easily, so the first thing you should check are that all cables and other connections are tight and seated firmly.

Wile I am trying to boot it up it goes in to a loop

Hello.

That error message usually refers to a hard disk failure. Your hard disk cable could be loose or faulty. Or, your hard drive would need to be replaced.

I'd suggest to check the cable and run your system's hardware diagnostics (often F2 or F12) when your system boots.

Hope this helps.

Hard drive has been coruppted. Hold alt f10 on statup to format and reinstall. If that dont work you may need to try install from cd's provided when you purchased laptop. If that dont work buy new hard drive and restore from cd's. Good Luck.

When turning my laptop on i get a message media test failure

You see this message when the laptop trying to boot from a remote server using the network card. If you didn’t see the PXE-E61 message before, it means that the network card was listed after the hard drive in the boot order (you can set the order in BIOS) and the laptop booted directly from the hard drive. Now, when the hard drive has failed, the laptop cannot detect it and tries to boot from the next available device – the network card. Your laptop is not configured to boot from a remote server using the network card, that’s why you are getting PXE-E61 Media test failure error. You have to replace the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

ok, what is happening is the laptop is trying to boot from the ethernet port, what you have to do is go into the bios (this is usually F2 on boot) and change the boot order to hard drive, save settings and exit the bois screen, the pc should now boot to windows
