Motor works but no drive to shaft.

Hi,
My dremel 396 runs fine(motor) but the shaft(ie the part the chuck hangs off) is not spinning so it's not useable.I can hang on to the shaft with the motor running flat out, there is no drive to the shaft. The shaft lock still works.Any thoughts would be much appreciated.Thank you.

My 15 year old Dremel 395 had the same problem so I took it apart. There is a plastic spline between the motor and the output shaft to the chuck . My plastic spline was split and had many of its teeth sheared off. The shaft lock acts on the output shaft side of this spline, so it was ok. Otherwise everything looked great; bearings ran free & had little play free, brushes ok. To be fair, my Dremel had seen hard use & doesn't owe me anything. No luck so far finding replacement spline parts, which if available should be easy to install. To take apart your tool, just google "Dremel Disassembly". GOOD LUCK!

old 395. Our new tool is the 300 series.

The tool that you require parts for was discontinued many years
ago. Limited parts are available from Dremel.

Inside the tool is a flex coupling and spline driver.

The flex coupling is # 2615294309 and the price is $ 1.25.

This is the hollow plastic sleeve about 1" long with grooves on
the inside, that goes between the motor shaft and the output shaft.

The spline driver is # 2615294308 for $
    1.00.

Spline driver sits on the direct end of the motor shaft. The flex
coupling sits over the spline driver. Spline driver is about 1/4", hard plastic
    with grooves on the outside.

How do you assemble a dremel flex shaft 225-01

You screw off the collar on the tool, remove the chuck and inner part. The chuck is replaced with a special chuck (no inner piece). The special chuck has a square opening in it's nose that accepts the square end of the flex shaft inner cable. Is is actually a speedometer drive cable, from yesteryear.
Then you pull the inner cable out slightly, if it will, and put the inner cable into the square opening of the special chuck on your dremel motor. once engauged, you carefully screw the outer shaft housing on to the end of your dremel motor.
What you want to avoid is damaging this area during flex shaft assembly. I have had success with turning the output side of the flex shaft, while tightening the outer flex shaft onto the dremel motor. Stop tightening if it starts binding...
Rotation seems to help with alignment of all parts.

Cheers,

Doc

How do cars with clutches work?

Clutches are useful in devices that have two rotating shafts. In these devices, one of the shafts is typically driven by a motor or pulley, and the other shaft drives another device. In a drill, for instance, one shaft is driven by a motor and the other drives a drill chuck. The clutch connects the two shafts so that they can either be locked together and spin at the same speed, or be decoupled and spin at different speeds.Clutches are useful in devices that have two rotating shafts. Generator is running perfectly but wont put out any power?

Hello, you will need to Flash the Field. With the generator running, plug a drill motor into one of the 110 volt recepticles. Now for the DANGEROUS part. Pull the trigger on the drill.........now with the other hand..........Quickly spin the chuck. DONT hang on to the chuck. The drill should start to run. ..Your done. If it doesnt work, spin the chuck the other way. This polerizes the stator and will work.

BE CARFULL.

Happy Generating!

Let me know how it goes, Thanks

Dremel repair: The motor spins but the tool does not turn.

I use heat shrink and found one that was larger and cut it down to less than an inch. I heated it with a lighter enough to fit the same size over it. and then heated that one enough to slip inside. I did one more so I ended up with 3 of the same heat shrink tubing (pink) and covered over both of the shafts and heated the whole thing so they all sealed and made a connecting shaft. In a pinch it worked well and never had a problem. there is a picture attached.
