No internet connection through router D-Link DI-524

My apartment has ethernet access through Netrisen, and I have internet connection when I plug my ethernet cable directly from my laptop into the wall. I initially had to enter a username and password when I first plugged my laptop to the wall, but it hasn't asked for them since. When I plug in the router and run through the set up wizard, I have no internet connection. I've tried both wireless and plugging an ethernet cord from the laptop to the router. The router is set to PPPoE with the username and password, but it just says connecting. Please help. Thanks.

    Hi networkmagic,

I followed your steps but it didn't solve the issue.

The internet randomly started working this morning through the router, and randomly stopped working this afternoon!

Apparently I can wirelessly ping out to google and other sites, so it seems like a router issue.

  • helpdlink Jan 15, 2008

I was trying to retrace my steps this morning to figure out why the router worked then, and I discovered I had to ping netrisen.com through the router before I could get internet. I have no idea why this is. It's working, for now.

Lost internet connection again, through both router and laptop 1. But, laptop 2 and laptop 3 get internet when I directly connect them to the wall! Laptop 1 will not get a valid IP address, gets 169. Also unplugged router from wall but left power source on, and it incorrectly pings any lettered website (eg netrisen.com) but correctly times out for numbered website (eg 216.31.156.10). I'm completely stumped. Please help!

I have just installed a new D-Link router. All connections seem okay but I don't have internet connection on the laptop.

Lost internet connection morning of 1/15/08 through router and directly through laptop 1. But, can get internet connection directly for laptop 2 and laptop 3! Cannot get a valid IP address anymore when laptop 1 is directly connected. Also, I discovered ping works for any lettered website even when the router is not connected to the wall, but correctly times out for a numbered website (eg 216.31.156.10). Completely stumped. Please help!

-Connect your router to the wall and connect your laptop to the router using a cable.
-Use Internet Explorer and type the following line in the address bar: http://192.168.0.1
-You should see a Username and Password Screen...type admin for the username and leave the password blank, unless of course you did give it a password.
-Next you should see the D-Link setup page with tabs across the top that say Home - Advanced-Tools-Status-Help
-Click on the WAN button on the left side of the screen
-Now you should see the WAN Settings Screen
-Click on "Dynamic IP Address" (You should not use PPPoE)
-Click on the Apply button at the bottom of the screen.
-Now close your browswer and restart your computer.
-You should now be able to access the Internet...through the router cable and wireless
-Let me know if you need more help with any of these steps.
-Good luck...and I hope this helps!!

We have cable internet provided by Virgin. I am accessing the internet by plugging the ethernet cable dirctly into my laptop rather than via my DI524. Have just read a post that says I have to be connected...

If you can connect to the internet using the Ethernet cable on your laptop then the cable modem is configured correctly.
If you want to connect to the Internet using the D-Link wireless router then first you need to configure the D-Link wireless settings and then configure the wireless card in your laptop with the D-Link's wireless settings. Remove the Ethernet from the laptop and connect it to the WAN/Internet port on the D-Link wireless router.

To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

I Have a D-link DI-524 wireless router and verizon Broadband modem w/USB conection the G router only has ethernet connections .How can I make this Combo work?

If your Broadband modem is only with w/USB connection you have to change modem/router, you won't connect it with usb to di-524.

Connecting Laptop wireless and Desktop wired to the router

Do you need to see the desktop or just share folders from each other? If the latter then you need to do the following:

Use Windows Explorer and select a folder you want to share. Right click and select sharing and security.

On the sharing tab click on Share this folder. Enter a share name ( I like to enter the PC name _folder name; Rick1_Downloads)

Click on Permissions. If your ok with everyone using the PC's and Laptops having access then highlight Everyone and click on Full Control.

Do this on each PC and Laptop.

That should be it or darned near close.

I just purchased a D-Link 2.4GHz Wireless Broadband Router

U need to confirm that your router is connected to cable/DSL modem that has access to internet from ISP.

Problem with startup wizard

For security reasons some wireless routers will not allow access to their setup pages via wireless unless some settings are changed.

you have to connect to the router from your computer with a ethernet cable into port 1,2,3 or 4 (ports at the beck of the router)and go to the website

http://192.168.0.1

A logon pop-up screen will appear. Type "admin" for the username and leave the password field blank.

make sure you plugged the "internet" ethernet cord into the internet or WAN port at the back of the router.

Connecting a DI-524 to a DI-604

This shouldn't really be any problem simply use a short "Uplink" ethernet cable to join the routers thru the uplink port, or any port really, and that way ya should be able to wifi and access the net, set ya router that connects to the net for DCHP and disable that setting in the Wifi router and ya should be good to go?
