I have a mc5500 generator that worked fine about a year ago. I started the engine yesterday and ran fine, but no power. I feel that the thing needs to be field flashed. I have searched the web and found different ways of doing so. From using a corded drill plugged into the 120v outlet and then spinning the chuck on the drill to induce a charge.... to backfeeding 12vdc into the outlet without the unit running. However since my unit is voltage regulated, meaning it has a semi conductor board to regulate power output, I am afraid of using one of the above methods of flashing. So how would I safely flash this generator?

My guess is that the board or rectifier is your problem. To Flash it you would have to unhook the board and flash it through the wires coming directly from the stator.

Worked fine put new battery in changed nothing wont work just clicks at relay box

The new battery was charged before you put it in? Or you just assumed it was charged?
When was the last time everything ran fine? yesterday, or half a year ago? because in a long period, lots of things could have corroded or just got defect.

My 23 hp kohler courage engine starts and runs for several seconds and stops. The gas is fresh, new plugs.gas filter. Fuel pump is working. The thing ran fine two weeks ago. Thanks, Mike

it sounds like the jet is dirty in the carburetor. Remove the float bowl and in the center there should be a jet that you can remove and clean. There are small holes on the side of it which you can clean with a thin piece of wire. Clean the center hole also.

Starts fine...no juice....sat for 10 years in the box...started using it 3 weeks ago...worked fine until yesterday....starts...runs..no juice...no circuit breakers blown...what's up?

Colemans were known for losing what is known as "residual magnetism", especially when sitting for long periods of time without use. This residual magnetism is necessary for exciting the field to produce electricity. Here is what you can try: Plug a 110v drill into one of the 110 outlets. While the engine/generator is running, with an open hand (not fingers wrapped around it) spin the chuck while holding the drill trigger in the run position. Many times this small amount of current that will be produced by spinning the drill motor will restore the residual magnetism and excite the field. Keep in mind that if this works, the drill motor will begin to spin immediately since it is plugged into the outlet. Hope this helps.

Installed a generac 20kw about a year ago, ran fine untill 2 days ago. During a utility outage, generator ran for about 30 minutes and then stopped producing power while still running. All mains were still...

With the engine off, check the exciter brushes and slip rings which supply magnetic power for the alternator winding in the stator. Also, check the motor-to-alternator mechanical coupling. Check the breakers for tripping. To service beyond this point requires a schematic of the alternator, a voltmeter, plus knowledge of what the schematic is telling you. Good luck!

Mower ran fine a couple days ago. Went to start

Remove the plug, pull the rope several times. Wait about 30 minutes. Put the plug back in. Try again.

Choke off? Use sparingly if at all. If you have a primer button, only press it 5 or 6 times.

Is your plug in good contition? It may need a replacement. Make sure you get the correct plug.

Let me know how this works out.

No power when switch is turned to start.

What was the jump method? NEG to chassis? That should tell you that the ground cables should be suspect - NEG battery to chassis and to engine.
