Archos does not connect to content portal - Archos 605 WiFi Digital Media Player

When you are connected to a Windows® network, you can browse the shared folders of other computers in the network, using the Archos File Browser. From the Home Screen, select the Browser icon. Once in the browser, select ‘Network’. Your device will search for other computers in the Windows® network and you can start browsing their shared contents.

• Using the Archos double browser, you will be able to transfer files from a computer onto your device, or transfer files from your device onto a computer’s write-enabled shared folder.

I think that the driver update that you're talking about is the firmware update, it is free to get the update through the archos website. All of the songs from itunes can't be put onto the archos. If you want the content portal you must purchase the cinema plugin. (that's the way archos designed the product) Your archos must be set on window media player first, before you can put your songs onto it, go to menu, click system and choose window media player and you can transfer your songs. Call tech support at archos 18773008879. This should help.

The archos 604 is a portable media player. It is not a PC. The Archos 605 WiFi runs embedded Linux on an ARM processor.

Here is a reprint of someone who solved this problem:

i just got my Archos 605 and when accessed the content portal it said i should update my firmware. when i said OK i got the message it faild connecting to the server and my archos froze.

after restarting it i'm getting the Recovery code (108) i tried to repair disk and format disk but both asking me to conncet to the PC and update the system. the problem i cannot conncet to the PC (i don't see the HD) and don't know what to do.

i managed to solve the problem, if you encounter same problem this is what i did:

1. connect the archos to the PC
2. click on repair
3. click on done and wait for a few seconds and you will see the archos as a drive in your windows (be patiant it takes some time)
4. once you see the drive, open it and make sure the System folder is empty, if not delete the file that exists there.
5. put the firmware update file directly on the root drive
6. click repair again on the archos and done.

now it should recognize the update file and perform the update

You can try adding the mac address of your archos Menu/system/settings. onto the router. It may be a built in firewall preventing you from connecting. good luck

Did you find the answer to this? You need to register your product (if you have already registered delete and start again making sure UK is selected in the top corner) and when you put in the place you purchased a box will appear for you to put in the number at the back of the card. Next time you go on to the content portal with the Archos, Media Club and free downloads will be there.

you need to do it for so many times..try to do it in content portal while you connect to wifi connection..then you need to fill up all important data by yourself

Hi, Richard. Although the 605 is internet capable, you have to buy, download and install a browser plugin in order for it to actually connect. Have you done that yet? If not, here is the link:
