My keyboard needs help, i have to hold down the letters for 3-5 seconds before i can get the letters to come on screen

On a standard Qwerty keyboard the Caps lock or hold down the shift key to get a capital letter.

Touch screen keyboards are a bit more complex - mine starts with capitals and after the first letter reverts to lowercase and the shift key has to be touched again for another upper case letter.

Maybe this is the result of inadvertently turning on "Sticky keys" (see the Accessibility Control Panel Help file). Try holding the Fn key down for several seconds with no other key pressed to see if that turns off the Fn lock-on. After that you can disable the Sticky Keys function in Accessibility.

There is a FUNCTION key on the keyboard, usually in blue and usually labeled . You will use this in conjuction with another key. Often laptop keyboards have a second "function" on them - indicated by a little blue colored letter, number or icon. The brightness button would be one that looked like a little o with lines coming out - kind of like a kid's drawing of a sun : )

To use the second function of the keys with the little blue letter, number or icon, you need to press and hold the Fn key and then tap the key you need - in this case the little sun. While continuing to hold down the Fn key, keep tapping the sun key until the brightness is as you like.


If you cannot brighten the screen with the above steps,and the LCD is faint, you may need to replace the Inverter.

My dell computer doesnt recognize when i press the letters on my keyboard, unless i hold down each letter down for 2 seconds,then it shows the letter one at a time, etc... I changed the keyboard, bought a new one with a usb interface, same thing. Tryed new drivers, etc...

Keys may be sticky. Some bread crumbs (or something elses) stuck under the keys. Try cleaning your keeboard with a soft brush. You can also hold the keyboard upside down and tap gently on its back to force the particles out.

May be it is time to treat youself to a new keyboard.

go to the control panel>Keyboard. Change the repeat delay and repeat rate. There is a box there where you can test the settings.

Are you sure that they are connected to each other? Try newer batteries. Press the connect button of the receiver for 2 secs and quickly press the connect button of the keyboard or press and hold the connect button of the receiver and the keyboard at the same time for 4secs do this steps over and over until it connects. Heres a tip the light on the receiver will blink onced pressed and if you press the connect button of the keyboard the blinking will stop which means that the receiver picked the keyboard out.... hope it helps

1. Open the on screen keyboard by going to "control panel" then "Ease of Access Center" then click on "onscreen keyboard".

2. click and hold down the "Fn" key on the physical keyboard and then hit F11 on the onscreen Keyboard.

3. All Fixed. Spread the word.
