I need to restore my whole computer back to its factory settings. I have a virus or a trojan horse or something on my computer and the windows defender and my norton antivirus wont detect it. I've saved the information I want to save, I just need the step by step process to put everything back to the way it was when I first got the computer. Thanks.

Did the laptop come with a Restore CD if so insert that and restart the computer and follow the instructions.

ah there should be a partition on the hard drive (check My Computer) it should be labeled Restore or such like that, usually you need to burn the files in this partition onto a CD and then run its from the CD, if i could get the model number and brand of your laptop i may be able to give me precise information on this process (this process will set your computer back to factory default, but as a side effect it will also completely erase everything you have saved on the computers since you got it, so make sure to make backups of anything you want to save)

Start up disk for aspire 5336

Whoa. yOU TRIED TO do what? Oh boy, now you\'re in a pickle. My suggestion to you would be to try the Factory restore again, and THIS time have it erase the previous operating system and not SAVE any settings or ANYTHING. SOmetimes, as with ACER, and WITH ACER....Doing a Factory Restore when trying to save your OLD data will corrupt the new install 70 percent of the time. My suggestion and my STRONG suggestion is to do the Factory Restore and to WIPE out the old data and let the Acer Recovery Manager walk you through the rest. The Restore Partition has ALL of the drivers and things that you will need to get the Laptop back up and running again.

Try doing a system restore first, take computer back to a earlier time before this happened.

My daughter laptop inspiron 1520 cant connect to the internet , she updated the wireless driver and since then it wont work , uninstalled and install old driver , no matter what i try it will not work ....

Click start and type restore in the search box.
Select an earlier time to restore to, before the upgrade.
That should return the laptop to a point at which it works again.
Hope that helps.

My asus 1001ha is infected with viruses & wont do anything how do i restore to factory settings?

If it is a bad virus that won't let you do anything on the computer, follow the instructions on this link. If you can install programs on your computer, follow only steps 7 and 8 from the above link.

If you still want to restore it to factory settings, you will need the restoration CD/DVD that came with the laptop, put it in the drive and boot from it to start the restoration to factory settings. If you don't have the restoration disc, you will need a Windows installation disc to install a clean copy of Windows and wipe the HDD. Same process, put disc in and boot from it then follow the instructions for Windows installation (you will need the drivers disc though).

Do not have recovery cd but want to restore factory settings.

you need to open erecovery and do a factory default restore ,and you wont need the disk for the recovery function either, thats as long as you have erecovery installed on your machine already

Laptop wont restore to factory settings, begins to & then says no back up files

It is possible that partition which contains the factory restore may be deleted.

It normally happens when you have formatted your drive while re-installing the operating system.

The best way is to re-load the operating system using the OS installation Disc.

Please let me know if you need any further information.

Ibm restore to factory setting

You have not explained what is wrong with your computer.
Is the laptop working, does it boot up into Windows?
What are you trying to restore?
Are you trying to get into a previous Restore Point?
The Access button takes you into the BIOS, you can change the BIOS settings back to the Default settings (ie the factory default settings).
It is difficult to offer a solution without knowing the exact nature of the problem.
