Your USB ports on your computer are plug and play. If you have issues with your USB port, it is port related, driver related or device related. The following solutions will help you identify the problem to resolve your USB port issues.
To Identify a Working USB Port
Begin troubleshooting your USB ports by checking Device Manager to see if your USB ports or hubs are working properly.

  1. Click the Start button. ClickControl Panel.
  2. ClickSystem and Maintenance.
  3. ClickDevice Manager.
  4. Double-clickUniversal Serial Bus controllersand check to see if all your USB ports, hubs and controllers are functioning correctly. Any devices not functioning will have a yellow exclamation mark in front of them.
  5. If Device Manager shows any USB ports, hubs or controllers are not functioning, check for updated drivers.

To Update the USB Port Driver

An out-of-date BIOS driver can create issues with your system recognizing the USB port.
  • Watch a Video on Steps to Update Bios on Your Computer.
    1. When the update process is complete, your computer will restart again to load the operating system with the new driver version installed.

Any USB port should work. There is no "printer" USB port. The "U" stands for "Universal" to signify that any peripheral equipment will work.

Can you explain the problem a little further and perhaps I can give you an idea of how to proceed?

Thanks for using Fixya...awaiting your reply.

I cant install printer usb port is damage

Hi,
Which USB port Damage because there are two USB port available.
One is Printer USB port or Sec is PC USB port.
If you are say PC USB port not working first you check it USB driver installed or not, or USB connect to motherboard or not. PC there are two side USB available one is front side and sec is back side. You connect only back side, because this USB connect to main board. So you connect only back side. If not working removed driver or installed driver.
Or if you are say printer USB then change cable or port or not solved only change option.

USB Port Dell 1700 Printer

On the back side of the printer (left side) below the parallel port and below the LAN (ethernet) port is the USB port. It looks like a barn door. The cable you would need to use is an A/B USB cable. it has the standard rectangular usb port on one end and the funny barn door that is used by printers and scanners on the other end. I hope this helps.

Pc won't accept printer via usb connection

So why won't it accept the printer? Is the printer and your operating system on the computer compatible? Did you install the printer and drivers? Are you sure the USB Port works?
Have you tried a different USB Port?

Click Start/Control Panel and look for Printers. Open it and make sure you don't have more than one instance of the printer installed. If you do, then you're confusing the computer. You can also check to see if more than one of the same printer is installed by opening a word document, then click File, then Print, and when the print window opens up click the Down Arrow on the line that shows the printer name. This will show you all other installed printers.

Error B 200

1. Connect the USB cable directly to a USB port on the computer 2. Connect the USB interface cable 3. Delete the printer from CONTROL PANEL--> PRINTERS and then add it back again 4. Reset the printer (unplug and plug it back) or try the reset given in manual. 4. Try a different data cable 5. Reinstall the drivers from the disk that came with printer.
If issue won't be fixed, it may be a printhead issue. If your printer is under warranty canon will replace your printhead for free
Hope this help!

The printer won't print any print jobs sent to it. When checking it shows that it is off-Line and I have tryed retyping my network password into it with no results. I end up going back into it and...

Hi

1. This can happen if the printer is set to "USE PRINTER OFFLINE" under printer menu.
(Goto Printer & faxes+double click your printer+check in the printer menu)

2. The usb cable may be bad and needs to be replaced.

3. Try to use other USB port on your computer. (This will install another printer driver but will work)

4. Your USB port on your printer may be bad (This requires your Printer's formatter replacement)

Try step 1, 2 & 3 first to rule out the problem.

I eed to know which port to connect to to use usb

I had this problem as well. I loaded the drivers for the USB to Serial Adapter and the drivers for the SiPix printer, left the adapter cable plugged in and rebooted my pc. After powering my PC back up I went back into the SiPix printer properties and another com port (5) showed up in the list of com ports. This was the port I needed and the printer woks great!! now your comport may be different depending on which USB port you have your SiPix connected to. This worked for me. Hope it helps you out!!

When I plug in the M407 camera nothing happens

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Cannot locate the usb port on the back of my new x7675 printer

The USB port is on the back bottom left as you have the back facing you. That USB port is for connecting the printer to the computer. It looks like a small oval port and it is the only USB port on the printer.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Help hook up Panasonic KX- P1150 parallel printer to USB with win Xp pro 64

Ah, 64 bit computing I feel your pain. One of my uses insisted on buying one and then found out 80% of their unique programs won?t work on it. We eventually wound up formatting the hard drive and installing conventional Windows on it. I researched several manufacturers of ?parallel to USB adaptors? and none of them claimed 64 bit compatibility. I did, however, find out that there are compatibility issues and some printers won?t work correctly. An alternative if you have a free PCI port on your PC would be to try using this card from cables unlimited: http://www.cablesunlimited.com/products/Prod_Individual3.aspx?groupcode=I3303. A bit too pricy ($89) but they actually advertise 64 bit compatibility with real drivers to match. Good luck and let us know if you have any other questions.

Inkjep printer

Unplug the printer. After uninstalling the software make sure you delete the printer from Printers and Faxes! Try plugging it up again(don't install back the software just as yet), the New device found pop up should come up! if it doesn't then it could be the USB cable / the USB ports on the PC or the USB interface on the card! If it does , put the cd in the drive and select Install Drivers automatically(if its pops up) Also, Try using different USB ports if the new device pop up doesn't pop up! Test the USB ports by using a regular USB device in the same port you are plugging the printer into! A bad USB cable could be the issue but it can also be something else! You'll need to verify that its the cable, what you can do is try it with a cable that you know is fully functional! If you still don't get a response from the printer and everything else works(i.e. usb cable, usb ports) then it could be the USB interface on the printer! and you'll need to take it to a tech! Hope this helps!! regards, babb
