Ihave 110 volt makita dc18rc battery charger, component VDR101 has burnt out beyond recognition and I was hoping someone could tell me exactly what it is so I can replace it. Thanks

I had the exact same problem. I ordered the ZNR V10 241U part from Dija Key. They are around 36 cents if you buy 10 of them. I cut the old one out and soldered the new one in. I changed the fuse over to an automotive one so the fuse is easier to obtain. I plugged it in and charger works fine.
What happens is a voltage spike either low or high gets recieved by the charger. The fuse appears to be slow blowing and does not stop the spike in time. The spike is stopped by the varactor surge supresser. In doing so, it saves the circuit board so all you have to replace is the fuse and the surge surprsser.

    So if anyone has broken makita chargers they don't want to fix I will take them.

    However, on ebay one of these chargers can be bought for around 25 bucks. farr better than going to Home Depo and spending $100.00.

    The part that's blow up is a Panasonic 110v "Transient/Surge Absorbers" (basically stops the charger getting blown up by voltage spikes on its powersupply). Look up ZNR V10 241U on google and you'll find the Panasonic spec sheet.

    If it's blown (and you're running your charger on 110v) then you've probably fried something much more expensive inside too. Unless you feel like replacing the MOSFET (2SK3528), its time for a new charger. Sorry.

Yes, because the voltage and amperage input to the charger is constant, so the board management dumps excess charge once the battery is fully charged. The battery cools, but the charger warms up. Mine does the same. It is a 15 minute charger, so the current is high.

Why does my charger flash but not charge
Most chargers have a specific sequence of flashes to indicate whether it is chargers or there is a problem. If mine flashes real fast the battery is usually too hot to charge. You did not say what brand or model you have. The best way to determine if its a bad battery or bad charger is to try charging a known good battery. How do i convert a makita charger model DC18RC at 110 volt to 240 volts?

I have makita bl1830 battery 18volt it works fine but will not charge, charger lights flash red and green therefore battery will not charge
If both red and green lights are flashing after you put the battery on the charger, the charger is reading the battery as bad or defective and it will not charge the battery. It may be because there is a short in the battery, one of the cells is bad or the battery is just old and won't charge anymore.

Hello,
The component is a resistor. The problem is going to be determining the resistors value since it was burnt and you can not see the color code. You might try contacting the manufacturer and asking them the value of that specific resistor by including the number like you did in your post R14. If you can find a wiring diagram for the product, it should tell you the value of the resistor also.
