There should be a water filter inside the water lines to the water spout. This filter could be clogged, or the water lines themselves may still be somewhat frozen and not allowing flow to the dispenser itself.
You can also test the power to the dispensor to make sure it is drawing water. Can you hear the pump trying to pump water to dispenser? The water valve should also be opening. You can test power to the valve that draws in water from the external water lines.

Why does water dispenser stop working? Seems to work fine after thawing freezer for about a day and seems to freeze up. Water line for dispenser routes through the door.

The water is door spigot can be freezing up if the ice door is stuck open. When you actuate your ice in door function you hear a solenoid CLICK. That solenoid is supposed to open the ice door flapper. If the flapper is not funtioning correctly (stuck open) then in as few as as 2 - 3 days your water in door can freeze again. If you want unit specific information we need your make and model number to better help you.

The water dispenser stopped working. It makes a sound but nothing comes out. The ice dispenser works fine.

You have two points where you can check the dispenser water. At the rear where the water supply comes in is the water inlet valve. If you disconnect the dispenser water line and then see if the water comes out when you try the dispenser. You should hear the valve work when you try the dispenser. If you don't hear it there is a dispenser actuator switch problem. If you do hear it but water doesn't work here there is a valve or water supply problem. If it's normal, disconnect it at the bottom of the freezer door and try again. If it's normal here it may be frozen in the door. If this is the case open the door till it thaws. A blanket over the opening will prevent thawing of all the food.

The water dispenser and ice cube maker stopped working

Your water line could be frozen in the door. You can disconnect the line under the unit before it goes into the door at the bottom hinge. Push the dispenser button and see if it comes out there. If it does leave the door open till it thaws. Covering the opening with a blanket will prevent the loss of cold in the freezer. . GE makes a heater that will prevent this from happening again. The part number for this heater is WR49X10173.

disconnect the line to the water dispenser at the water inlet valve on the back where the water supply comes in and try the dispenser. if you hear the valve work but water doesn't come out, the valve is bad. If you don't hear the valve, the dispenser switch is bad

Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. It’s on the back where the water supply comes in. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze blocking the fill tube.. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

A strainer before the inlet valve can also get stopped up restricting flow.

Ice & Water Dispenser Suddenly Dysfunctional; LED lights, too!

Cory, you sound like you have a bad water valve as well as a bad control board for your dispensor. If you've had any storms in your area in the past 4 - 6 weeks, it's very possible that the storm took both parts out.

We have parts for GE as well as mots other major brands, so please give us a call with your complete model number and we will get your parts out to you right away!

We hope this solves your problem and we look forward to being able to assist you with future issues.

Have a great evening.
