Hi, I have a Rheem RTG-74PVN-2 tankless hot water heater. It has run great for about a year, but now shuts off completely after running for approx. 8-10 minutes. I have the water temp set at 130 f. Any suggestions?

There will need to be a recall, everyone is having the same problems across the country. Rheem is finally taking notice. Call your dealer and they may replace unit.

Remove power source from the unit. If remote control is installed; remove cover and lift the control wires on the terminal...can be accomplished from either end. See if the unit runs longer.
If you're receiving any error codes, especialy code 76; contact RHeem customer support at (800-432-8373) and notify them IF you are getting a code "76" error.

Good luck,
JZ...

Temporary solution:
Set your temperature to about 115, that way you use more water flow which should keep it from shutting off. OR to the temperature that you can handle W/O cold water added. But that will help you for a few weeks only. Also while you shower or use hot water you can open an extra faucet to keep high flow.

Even though you are not getting an error code, there are may be some diagnostics in the controller that can identify whether it's an electronic (controller/sensor) or a heat exchanger issue. I would contact Rheem tier-2 support.

I have c7 code

it is a communication problem between remote control and tankless unit

Temporary fix:
1 Turn off electricity to tankless and remove cover. Find two terminals that remote control connects to.
2 Disconnect remote control wiring. Turn electricity back ON.
3 Open hot water tap and see if unit works as expected.
4 Without remote, tankless will heat water to default 120 degrees F and will run without the remote.
Contact Rheem they may send you another pcb board.

Are water heater runs for about a minute then the code C7 13 Code flashes and we lose our hot water?

Call Rheem for a new unit. They problem will never be fixed. They have redesigned the unit. It is now RTG-95DVN a self contained venting unit. Mine was worked on several times over two years and much frustration before they finally replaced it.
