Optical Cable input not working

The digital optical input stopped working. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

  • HT-WP38 Mar 30, 2008

I have the same problem, LPCM light flashes once and goes out when changes it to the "digital in" option. No sound will come out of stereo but laptop still pushes it through the cord. Very frustrating.
Removed the cable, turned unit off, considered trying a new cable but havent had the $ to do so.

It is likely that the optical fiber inside the cable is broken, it is really sensible and gets damaged easily. I'd try changing the cable before even opening the home theater.

How can I set up with my lcd Sony tv

If your home theater receiver has a digital optical input, run a digital optical cable from digital optical OUTPUT on TV to digital optical INPUT on receiver. If receiver is older and only has analog inputs, you can get an 1/8 inch to RCA cable(red/white), and plug 1/8 inch side to an output on back of TV and plug RCA side to aux input(or CD or cassette input) on back of receiver. DO NOT PLUG INTO PHONO INPUT! Either one of those cables can be found at Walmart, radio shack, or best buy, etc. Digital Optical cable is definitely the best choice, but I just used the 1/8 to RCA setup to hook up a Sony led to my brother's early 90's Pioneer receiver(not the ideal setup, but will work). Hope this helps.

Maybe assign it?

If the digital TV-related audio actually originates elsewhere (Cable Box?) you could skip the TV and use the Cable Box as the audio source. Nothing is gained by flinging an audio or video signal around the room to be handled (but not improved) by any device. I have no video entering my receiver and nothing but bare bones analog audio going to my TV in case I want to just watch the news or something else lo-fi.

Hi yes i have the jvc RX-8030v and i have a issue with the digital audio in! My dvd toshiba RD-KX50 player does not have a digital coaxil out it only has digital optical out! But on the back of the jvc...

Read you manual, there is a page with a matrix of the audio in selectiosn that can be made for coaxial and optical on each input. Then you have to go into setting button on the right side of the unit and the "push set" knob to change the inputs for the digital audio.
My problem is, I had this all working and went to change the inputs around to add a optical DVD changer and now niether of my optical inputs are working any more. Analog is still fine.

Input signals Marantz SR4003

There are four digital connectors on the back of the unit: 2 optical and 2 coaxial. They are marked a s 1 2 3 4. 1 and 2 are optical, 3 and 4 - coaxial. Also you have front optical connector marked as F.
You can connect 5 digital sources to your receiver. For example, connect your DVD to input 2 (optical) by optical cable and connect your DSS to input 3 by coaxial cable. Assign DVD to digital 2 and DSS to digital 3 in input setup menu.

to select DVD, VIDEO or FRONT AUX.

2 Press the INPUT MODE key.
Each press switches the setting as follows:

1 "F-AUTO": Auto detect
("AUTO DETECT" indicator lights up)

2 "D-MANUAL": Fixed to digital input
("DIGITAL" indicator lights up)

3 "ANALOG": Fixed to analog input *
("AUTO DETECT", "DIGITAL" indicator goes off)

Also check your TV to make sure it is outputting to the optical jack.

Hooking up a sony playstation 3 with digital optical cable

Here's one solution, if you have an audio output from your tv, you can go from the audio output on your tv to the audio input on your receiver that way anything that is playing on your tv for example, playstation 3, dvd player etc. Anything playing on your tv will have audio on your onkyo home theater system. The other thing I would try if you want to hook ps3 directly to receiver is go to your connection settings on your ps3 menu and change your connection method to digital optical cable.
