Dishwasher not draining

I have a Whirpool Dishwasher Model#DU930PWP82. Water is standing in the bottom of the dishwasher. It will not drain properly. This has been happening for a while now. When I notice that the water did not drain, I shut the door and press the drain/cancel button. Some times it would drain. If it did not drain, I would push the button again. Eventually, it seemed to drain. That is not working anymore. I can hear it running when I push the drain/cancel button. It just does not drain.

I had a plumber in to check the plumbing. He said their is no problem with the plumbing. We pushed the drain/cancel button when he was here and he showed me where the water was trickling in the drain. Therefore, he said...not my problem you need to call and have the dishwasher serviced. (He was here for another plumbing problem so I asked him to check the draining of the dishwasher.)

After he left, I did some investigating to see if I could fix it....ie something clogging the drain. I found the water hose from the dishwasher to the garbage disposal. I removed the hose from the disposer. I could see nothing clogging it. With the hose detached, I put it over the sink and pressed the drain/cancel button. I got a little trickle of water to come out. That was it. The bottom of the dishwasher is still full of water.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I am not a handyman..I am a working mother. However, if it is something I can check and fix like a drain clog. I would like to try that! I looked in the dishwasher to see where the water drains from. I am scratching my head on that. With the bottom full of water, I cannot really see anything. The manuals I have are no help at all. Thank you!

The problem is a clog in the hose or the check valve from the drain pump. I will post back shortly with directions to unclog it.
Thanks/Mike

I had a little trouble finding out which pump configuration you have. Your model number should be DU930PWPB2.

Continue using the cancel/drain function until you have as much of the water out as possible. Turn off power to the washer. Remove the cover at the front bottom of the dishwasher. You will see the drain hose at the front of the pump. Put a towel down under it and remove the hose from the white plastic fitting. You will have water come out of the hose and pump. Unscrew the fitting from the pump. Inside the fitting there is a rubber flap that acts as a check valve. It is common for objects to get trapped in this fitting, blocking the drain.

If this is clear, I use a 1/4" plastic water line to snake through the drain hose to dislodge any obstruction in it.

Post back and let me know what you find or with any questions you have.

    Thanks/Mike

My model FDB1100RHCD doesn't drain all water. lots of standing water in bottom of unit.??

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Dishwasher not draining properly or not draining at all issues can arise due to different reasons. Usually, these issues are related to kinked hoses, knocked out disposer unit (if connected with the dishwasher drain hose) & clogged drain pump & filter. Also note that dishwashers do not drain completely after a finished cycle and this is normal. Dishwashers are designed to leave some water in the unit to ensure that the heating element doesn't overheat. If you suddenly begin to experience a large amount of water being retained in your dishwasher, you have a problem. Some of the most common reasons include that the drain hose isn't working properly, the drain pump isn't working correctly, or possibly there is a plumbing problem in your home's drain lines. First check whether the drain is not clogged or blocked and the line is not kinked. Check all the hoses for blockages & also clean the air gap. If you have checked the drain hose and can't locate the problem, then it is an issue with the drain pump of the dishwasher. Please rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Whirpool DU1055xts water does not drain after wash

Hi,

There is a fourth screw under the spray arm. Here are some instructions I put together to clean out the pump. But I do not think this will help the drain. The drain hose or drain pump could be restricted.

The best way to find the restriction is work backwards. Start at the sink where the dishwasher drain hose connects, take that connection apart and try to drain into a bucket. If it does not drain the work your way back to the dishwasher checking at every connection point.

This link will be for the pump cleaning.

Standing water in bottom of dishwasher...didn't drain.

hit the cancel drain cycle. Often times the dishwasher drain hose is not installed properly. It must be routed up as high as the dishwasher as soon as it comes out of the unit. May be also that there was a little regular soap or something that made it sudds up. vegetable oil poured into the dw tub will remove the sudds. Try to wash again after cleaning out the sudds and run it again. Thanks

Dishwasher----GE Nautilus

1. Check drain pipe, air gap and drain for blockage.

2. Could be too much dishwasher liquid build up (i.e. too much Cascade used over time, clogging things inside the machine). Remove all standing water first then boil a big pot of water (3 to 4 quarts) and carefully pour in to bottom of dishwasher. Let stand until cool. Attempt to drain.

3. Turn off Circuit Breaker to dishwasher. Open kick plate at bottom and look around for the cooling fan for the motor and spin it free in both directions. Look for any solenoids and push them in to the other position. Attempt to drain on dishwasher.

4. If the above steps don't fix it and you are not handy, it's time to call in the repairman or consider getting a new one. If you are handy, do a web search on more detailed solutions for your model of dishwasher (typical failure points are valves, impellers, pump etc).
