I am trying to graph a residual plot as L3, but the graph isn't working. It's not even working for L1 and L2. Do I have a wrong setting?

Hello,
I think you should run the SetUpEditor. Press [STAT][5:SetU[Editor][ENTER] to configure the calculator to perform a new statistics problem.
If you still have problems, clear the lists of all data and restart. Press [2nd][MEM][4:ClearAllLists][ENTER].

Hope it helps.
Thank you for using Fixya.

How do i get l1 l2 l3 charts up

L1, L2, L3?
If you are doing statistics, Set MODE to 3. Stat.
Choose 1-Var or any regression model. If you press 1-var you will have two lists x and frequency.
For any regression model you have 3 lists x, y, and Freq(uency).
L1, L2, L3, are list names in the TI 83/84 Plus and the Casio graphing calculators.
However I have no idea what getting the charts up mean.
I hope it helps

Why can't i see the plotted points when i try to graph my L1 in a scatter-plot?

You cannot have a scatter plot with just one variable. You need values in L1 and values in L2. If you have only one set of values you can do 1-var statistics and plot a histogram (x-value vs. frequency).

In my precal class we are studying trigonometry graphing. On my calculator I made 3 lists L1, L2, and L3 when I go to graph and regulate the equation it only regulates the equation for both L1 and L2....

I do not know what you mean by regulate, but if you want to perform a regression analysis using data from L1 and L3, all you have to do is to specify the lists to be used.
For example if you have to perform QuadReg on L1,L3,
  1. Press [STAT] button,
  2. then Right Arrow to select CALC(ulate)
  3. then [5:QuadReg]
  4. The command QuadReg echoes on main screen as QuadReg .
  5. At this point press [SHIFT][1] to select (L1), then [COMMA], then [SHIFT][3] to select (L3) , and finally [ENTER].
  6. The result will be displayed after regression is performed.
  7. If you want to save the regression equation in Y1 so as to graph it over the scatter plot you enter QuadReg L1, L3, Y1 [ENTER]

My Calculator cannot write polynomial functions. When plugging into two list. Then using Cubic Reg(L1,L2).. then my calculator says ERR Invaild DIM

Hi vanman21,

You may have a plot on, other than the one your trying to use or, graph. You can press, [2nd] [Y=] and, [Arrow Up] to go to the plots and, make sure all other plots are off. As k_akima stated, your number of list elements may be wrong. You can display L1 and, L2 at the home screen or, in the plots menu and, make sure both list have the same length and, data is correct.

It is important to select L1 and L2 from the [2nd] [1] for L1 and, [2nd][2] for L2 on the calculator. If you type [alpha][L][1] won't work.

Next, press [STAT] [5]:SetUpEditor and, the SetUpEditor command will display at the Home screen for you. It is important to do this process before you start creating lists to be analyzed and, used on the calculator. This will save you a lot of hardships from data that is already being used and, in the calculator registers. You can also associate your list to your project so, that other data won't conflict and, cause errors.

You also should add the rest of the lists or, structure of the CubicReg(L1,L2,Frequency list,RegEQ). The SetUpEditor is a great tool to help you gain the proper structure. The default for frequency is sat at 1 if not used but, having a RegEQ (such as Y1), will help the calculator to calculate your data. Just remember to set the mode to Func before you use the SetUpEditor.

If you have any questions, just post a comment and, I'll respond quickly.

I entered and calculated data in L1 now when I try to graph the data i get an err: invalid dim Here are the steps that I took: 2nd Stats Plots enter Plot1 On Type: Box Plot XList: L1 Freq:...

If you have a frequency list it must be entered in a statistical list, L2, L3, ...or L6.
If the frequency of all elements is 1 you do not need to enter the frequency in a list. When you go to draw the box plot, the frequency will be set to 1.

Graphing problems

Hi,
From what I understand you want to draw statistical graphs (scatter plot, box plot, etc.) and you window is set up correctly. Usually, one must first see agraph and adjust the window, but no matter.
If you do not see anything it may be due to the fact thea the statistical plots are turned off.

Type in the data in lists L1 and L2, etc. Press [2nd][QUIT]

Press [2nd][Y=] (STAT PLOT] . Select [4:PlotsOff] [ENTER] .
Screen displays Done

Press [2nd][Y=] (STAT PLOT] . Select [1:Plot1 Off].
  1. The configuration screen for Plot1 opens with the cursor blinking ON.
  2. Press [ENTER] to turn Plot1 ON.
  3. Use Down Arrow to move cursor to second line Type:
  4. Select the type of statistical plot. Use the right arrow to move highlight on one of the 6 types.
  5. Select the type:scatter, Xline, histogram, box plot, and press [ENTER] to validate the choisce.
  6. Use down arrow to select the Xlist: use [2nd][1] to choose L1, etc. and press [ENTER]
  7. Select the Y-List (L2) and validate by pressing [ENTER]
  8. Select the data-point mark.
  9. Press [GRAPH].
If you do not see the graph or if it is not well centered, press [ZOOM][9:ZoomStat] to restrict the screen to the data entered.

Hope it helps.
Thank you for rating the solution.

If you think that the curve look like a straight line you can try to do a linear regression.
Press [STAT] Arrow right to highlight [CALC]
Select [4: LinReg(ax+b)]

That is the equation for the linear regression. As you see eqaution has been saved in Y1. Press [GRAPH] to get the data and the regression curve drawn on same graph.

Graphing

Press STAT, go to Edit, then enter x values in L1 and y values in L2 (other lists can be used too, but these are the default ones).

Next, go to STAT PLOT, pick a plot, turn it on, select the type, data lists (x and y should be L! and L2 already; if not, change them), and mark type.

Finally, hit graph. You may need to adjust window settings to see all of the points. If you get a DIM MISMATCH error, check to make sure that there are the same number of entries in each list, and that only the plots that you are using are turned on.
