Pump Continuously surges

I work for a leading chemical company and this problem has haunted 2 Territory Managers trying to fix this issue. In the account we service the motor 2 to 3 times a month sounds like it is surging and that there might be air in the pump. Once we remove the pump and reinstall it all is well surging stops.

Here is what we have already done.

1. Checked the incoming building water pressure which is static and comes in at 20 PSI.
2. Augered the wash arm manifolds to check if there's anything causing the air gap inside the pump housing.
3. Made sure all wash arms are free of debris.
4. Nothing is ever caught in the pump or manifolds.

This customer is getting extremely angry with this machine he's purchased. The only thing we can think of doing is drilling a 1/8 size hole in the impeller just in case air gets caught so that it may travel in back of the pump seal. Since Jackson Tempstar motors have the motor impeller static you are unable to move the impeller forward of backwards to help with pressure.

Can someone offer a solution? We are getting tired of constantly removing the motor check and re-installing.

Thanks BIgg T I'll try that for sure and follow up with you the next time this happens. Due to the fact that it only happens every few weeks I'm skeptical about loosing water through the drain plunger. Perhaps this is what is happening. On my next call I will fill the unit and pour half a gallon of water. ( The really weird thing is in looking inside the machine once the fill cycle completes the leves seem to operate normally. Pump intake screen is clean, manifold clean and wash arms clean. I'll be sure to return and examine the wash arm seams as you suggested. Thanks for the advice Bigg T. I hope this works. The unit is leveled I've checked that part of my routine install.

Thanks again I'll let you know soon enough I'm sure!

Unfortunately, I tried everything you suggested and still the pump continuously has an air lock on this Tempstar unit. The drain is sealed, the machine is leveled, I spent Saturday removing the motor and re-installing it and my other friend Territory Manager was there on Sunday doing the same. For some reason everytime we remove the mother and re-install it the surge dissapears instantly. The one TM i am working with has 25 years experience in the field and has never in his life seen anything like it. If there's something else that we are overlooking could you perhaps share a bit more info?

    Thanks bigg T

The pump housing O-ring? Or the gasket that seperate the pump housing and the motor? Or would you mean the impellor/motor seal assembly? I have not replaced that yet perhaps I should give that a try. Could you provide in detail a little more information? Thanks

Hi,im a hobart service tech.couple of things to try (you may already have)--check the wash arms at the seams make sure their not cracked, make sure the drain is sealed and not leaking at all.if the unit loses any water or the wash arms are cracked at the seam the unit will sound like its starving for water.make sure the unit is time you go back if its acting up pour a half gallon of water in the tank and see if it runs correctly,if it does you could be losing water or the water fill vave could be acting up and not letting enough water in.let me know.

Generac 5793 Ix 2000 surging

It sounds as though there is an issue with the carburetor. If the unit is "surging" with no load I would recommend thoroughly cleaning the carb. It would also be a good idea to test the fuel pump. Per Generac you need to disconnect the fuel line leading to the carb and pull the starter rope over to see if adequate fuel is flowing. If none of this is the issue try testing the stepper motor on top of the carb. If you unclip the wire and use an OHM meter all wires should test at 150 ohms. to test place on test lead on the blue wire and move the other lead to the remaining four wires. The should all ohm out to roughly 150ohms. if this is not the case you need to replace the stepper motor.... Before you do any of this you should check for fresh fuel, a good spark plug, and proper compression.

Why want my pressure washer suction the solution while pressure washing the house?

The first problem might be that you are trying to use the wrong nozzle, see this link to read more about what nozzle to use for detergents

If you still have an issue the problem is going to be in the chemical valve on the pump, there are two different styles they have on this type of machine, look at the links below on directions on how to repair your chemical valve.

I have replaced the cartridges and the printer is still saying I am out of ink and won't let me print

If you are using third party (ink made by another company) or refilled cartridges then that is most likely the problem.

Lexmark like most other printer companies do not want their products using ink that is not chemically identical to the ink Lexmark uses.

More often than not, OEM (Other Equipment Manufacturers) will damage print heads, cause print quality problems. These issues in turn lead to higher warranty claims. Most companies take the position that this is product tampering and therefore will void a warranty on a printer the issue is related to 3rd. party ink or toner.

Hey traboH - thanks and we do need to get a chemical supplier - but this machine does not have automatic dispensers - how else might I add soap? Thanks, robin879

It's acceptable to just pour the proper amount of detergent right into the unit every time you wash a load. However, there are two things to consider.

1. Without pumps, it is important to ensure that your final rinse temperature is, at minimum, 180 degrees for proper sanitation of your dishware. If you have a LXiGC, as you've indicated, you'll have trouble doing this because that unit does not have it's own booster heater to maintain such high temps. Usually, sterilization is achieved through the use of a chemical sanitizer, delivered via a pump during the rinse cycle, on that particular model.

2. Also, it will be impossible to properly deliver rinse aid (jet-dry) to the machine without pumps. This may lead to noticeable "spotting" of your glassware.

Adding pumps to the unit is an option I would seriously consider. Your most economical route would be to have your chemical company install their pumps externally. Your local Hobart office can offer you the addition of chemical pumps, as well, but you'll pay a premium price for them.

I'll add, if you do decide to get the pumps, insist that the proper ratio of chemical is being delivered (achieved via pump programming). It's not uncommon for the pumps to be improperly programmed and excessive amounts of chemicals consumed. These guys are, after all, in the chemical SALES business.

I have a sta-rite mpra6g pump with a new filter, when the impeller broke fixed it after algae problem have cleaned continuously after properly adding chemicals. I have noticed pump pressure has gone up to...

When the pressure gos up, it means there is a restriction in the discharge side of the pump. The pump making 30 psi means the pump is doing its job. The filter side is the problem.

Sounds like crappy gas. The 289 may not like pump no-lead and the rattling sound you are hearing may be pinging / knocking.
