thats when you set your ti 84+ screen to very dark. this is how to solve it:
go and open mirage OS, and then just press the "-" (minus) button. the screen should get lighter.

My calculator just won't turn on. The batteries are brand new and I used the calculator for only 1 quarter and it's been sitting in my room all summer and now it won't turn on. what do i do?

Okay; Have you tried adjusting the contrast? This is a common problem with Ti calculators. Try pressing 2nd and up. This will darken the screen. If the screen becomes too dark press 2nd and down to lighten it. Happy Calculating

I replaced the 4 AAA batteries and it won't turn on do I have to replace the back up battery as well? Thanks

There is a strong probability that your calculator is functioning correctly. The problem is that after replacing main batteries the screen contrast may become too dark or too light (your case).
To fix this "problem" you must adjust the contrast.
To darken screen:
  1. Press [2nd] key and release it.
  2. Press and HOLD the UpArrow
  3. Keep pressing UpArrow until screen is dark enough.
Try this adjustment. I am confident it will bring your calculator to life.
If it fails, post a comment to this thread and I will give your additional diagnostic procedures.

I have a TI 84 plus silver edition. Won't turn

The problem may be due a screen that is too light to see anything on it. Adjust the screen darkness.
  1. Press [2nd] key and release it.
  2. Press and HOLD the [UpArrow] to draken screen.
  3. Release the [UpArrow] when screen is dark enough.
You can also connect it to the computer to see if TI Connect finds it. If it does, update the OS to version 2.53MP.

You change the backup battery if the calculator tells you RAM CLEARED each time you turn it ON.

The screen is black when I turn it on. I've replaced the batteries and no change. I try to change the contrast and nothing happens. It is a couple years old, but I should still work.

Hi,

TI-83 screen is black

The "color" on your screen reset to dark. You can adjust it by pressing "2nd" and the "up" arrow (or "2nd" and "down" arrow) repeatedly.

Did you try [left][right][2nd][on]? It reinitializes the memory and clears the ram.
