Dimmer switches are just a simple variable resistor. It's basically a coil of wire with an arm that travels along the coil to make contact with it in different parts of the coil. The coil has resistance so if the arm makes contact at the first of the coil there is little resistance and light is bright. As the arm travels down the coil the resistance increases and lights dim. If the arm isn't making good contact with the coil it can cause the flickering. Don't know if it's even possible to clean these and I'd recommend trying a new dimmer switch. If the flickering continues you may have a bad lightbulb socket that is not making good contact with the wiring or the lightbulb. This could be a potential safety hazzard as the arc'ing of the electricity could build up a lot of heat.

In order to better assist you determine what the problem is, I would need to know more about the dimmers you are using (Brand name and model numbers please) along with the number of lights you have connected to each lighting circuit controlled by each dimmer. Also, please provide the approximate age of the dimmer switches or when they were installed. By providing more info, we can help resolve your problems - Thank You!

This is a tricky one.. when i inquired to the maufacturer they came up with several reasons.. dimmers are electronic and any electronic noise on the line can cause it to freak out...when it is on full the dimmer is not engaged. When the dimmer is dimmed the electronics kick in and are subject noise. Ahh what is noise? noise is caused by motors, or transformers (like phone chargers) or god knows what. you can try to move the circuit breaker from one leg (phase) in the panel to the other. that might doit.. or the noise could be coming from your outside your home or if you are in an apartment.... anywhere..... you can try fo put in an old resistor type dimmer if you can find one... then when it all starts to work... your wife will say... whats the humming noise!... and thats another story.. use candles

Dashboard lights only work part of the time

Dash lights can have a dimmer control, sometimes built into the headlight switch. Any dimmer needs to be moved high to low and back to keep the connection good. If the lights flicker when the dimmer switch is moved, you may have to change the switch.

I want to set up two household light (AC) both of which are to be controlled from one switch with a dimmer. can I connect the lights in in series or do I have to connect them in parallel with two separate...

The dimmer controls the intensity of the electric current flowing in the circuit, hence controlling the light intensity emitted from the bulbs. I believe a series connection with one switch will suffice.

New Leviton 'lighted, decorative' switch flickers when off

You cannot use standard electronic dimmer switches with CFL bulbs, only incandesant bulbs! That is why you are getting the flickering.

With CFL's bulbs installed in a light fixture that has a non-flouresant rated dimmer switch on that circuit, you will cause the standard dimmer to fail.

You have to look at the dimmer package (sometimes printed on the back of the dimmer itself too) to see if it can be used with CFL bulbs,as many are not rated for use with anything other than standard incandesant bulbs.

Hope you found this very helpful and best regards!

I have a slide dimmer switch The orange light on the switch plate is flickering, when slid down in the off position?

This is caused by the neon bulb that is used in most slide dimmer switches, it is normal and doesn't mean anything is wrong with your dimmer. The flickering is because the neon bulb doesn't have the usual filament, but used neon gas to cause the light to glow.

The bulb is used as a locater light for nightime so you can more easily find the switch in the dark. When the light switch is turned on, the neon bulb typically isn't lit.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

95 chevy blazer has dash lights intensity varying while driving

This is not a voltage problem. The problem is in the headlight/dash dimmer. You have to turn the dimmer switch on the headlight switch to select what intensity you have right? try turning it down just a smidge and if it stays steady then it is most likely a dimmer switch problem. This requires replacement of the headlight/dimmer switch to fix. local auto parts shop should be able to have this in stock.
ps dont forget to rate my solution please. Thanks

Broan allure II range hood

Did you ever find out what blew the fuse originally? Do the lights have a dimmer feature on them? If so, the reostsat may be bad, or the switch that controls the light intensity, 1,2,3. ect. Something caused the fuse to blow, maybe a wire on the bulb or switch somewhere.
