SOURCE: delete songs from sansa e280
Open up your windows media player and click on the sync tab..your device should be listed there..and also it will show you all the songs you have in there...or you can just format the whole player..formatting will erase everything in that player...

You dragged & dropped files in recovery mode? Recovery mode is only for re-installing the firmware or formatting the device if it is unresponsive. If you are wanting to drag and drop files onto the device, the music needs to be put into the Music folder on the device. If you do not see the Music folder, you will need to enable hidden files and folders on your PC. Best of Luck. p.s. - you can add to this question this doesnt work.

Unfortunately, so simple - although this simple solution does not appear in any manual. the solution: put your Sansa in the rear USB - and the PC immediately recognizes the MP3 or MP4. The USB soccket in the front of the PC does not have enogh power, and when using the rear USB port - it works!
