    Ohiotom,

I've never done this before! I'm using a USB cable/port and wanted to use my Windows Media Player to make a dvd of the video. Thanks for any help!

According to the Sony website the drivers for this camera are included in XP and Vista.

Are you trying to connect with a USB or a DV (Firewire cable)?

What software are you using to transfer the video?

Assuming there's nothing wrong with your camera or computer, I can help you with this. Please answer the questions and I'll help.

Hello Laura. You cannot transfer video from this camcorder with a USB cable. You will need a DV cable. This cable did not come with your camcorder. You will also need software for the transfer process. Windows Movie Maker can do this although I've never used it. I used a product called Scenalyzer. There is a free demo version at www.scenealyzer.com, but it will leave a watermark on your video if you don't pay for it. You might try Windows Movie Maker first if you already have it.

Once you have captured the video on your computer, you cannot just burn it to a DVD as a file if you want to play it in DVD players. This too requires special software.

I'm travelling for work right now, but when I get home in a few days I can be of more help. If you want to keep going on this, get a DV cable and see if you can capture the video with Windows Movie Maker and let me know.

    OK, I'm back now.

Have you had any success with the DVD cable and Movie Maker?

Once you "capture" the video on your computer you'll need additional software to make a playable DVD. A playable DVD has to have the video in a specific format and in a special directory structure to work. There are plenty of software packages that will do this, but one the I often use is called convertXtoDVD. It is reasonally inexpensive and very easy to use. You can download it from the web and I believe there's a demo version available. Check out this link:

If you have not been able to capture the video let me know and we'll work on that first.

I have replaced a Windows XP PC with a new PC running Windows 7 Home Premium and I have not been able to connect my DCR-HC26 Sony Handycam digital tape camera to the new PC. I'm using an I-link (firewire)...

Mostly with these cameras you do not need driver (unless you use a USB cable) but like me you have firewire okay? so you should unplug your camera, turn your PC off for a min or two, plug camera in THEN yes THEN put your PC on, and the Win 7 will see your camera and loads setting it needs auto ok.
