If it's not an adjustment that you can do from the keyboard you might have a back light that's bad or going bad. If it's so dim that you have to turn off the lights in the room to see it - your backlight is most definately bad. Probably not worth repair.
In case it's something else ... you could try connecting an external monitor screen and see if you get the same effect (dim screen.)
It sounds like the backliht has failed. These can be relapced but its often easier to but a complete screen.

u need to check the same issue using another monitor or a display device if u get the same 4 screen resolution then its the video card or else the issue is with the LCD.
