Vacuuming an old rug and some unraveling on the rug got wrapped around the brush bar and got tangled in the brushes and the brushes stopped turning.

The brush stops turning while vacuuming, you can cause the same problem by twisting the canister, this is the second machine to do this

    beater bar doesn't go around

  • Anonymous Mar 29, 2014

The first time I cleaned my vacuum brushes I did not have any problem. I followed the directions on the manual. It said I had to take off the bar. That was a pain because you have to turn those 3 things at the bottom to unlock it and take it off. I had to use a penny or something that size to fit into the slats and that was not easy, but my vacuumed worked. no problem. This 2nd time I did not remove bar. I turned on the vacuum and when I started to push it the on and off started flashing red and would not move.

Does the power head motor stop, or does the brush roll stop. If it is the brush roll stopping, replace the belt and/or the brush roll. If it is the motor, you may need to clean out around the motor, it may not be getting enough air to cool causing it to overheat and stopping. That the brush roll plate off, take out the screw, and the top will come off, then you can check to see if cleaning is the answer, if not, the motor may be bad.

Beater bar only spins when vacuum is locked & upright.

Your belt is probably stretched and can't turn the brush when it's on the floor. Replace the belt at least twice per year.

Oreck vacuum cleaner stop and burn smell

sounds like hair or string or something like that is wrapped around the beater bar(the long brush under the head that brushes the carpet) keeping it from turning. The belt that drives the bar is getting hot because the beater bar is stuck.

Beater bar

It could be your brush bar is not working properly if there is debris restricting the endcaps, the brush bar motor could be defective, it could be a switch or wiring problem.

My XV 11 Vacuum keeps on bringing up the message " My vacuum is stuck"

This message generally means that the beater/brush bar is not turning. Try rotating the beater/brush bar manually to see if it can turn freely. If not, you will need to remove the beater/brush bar and ensure that it is clean; that the orange end caps on the brush are free of hair and dirt, and that the bar housing area is free of obstructions.

Note, when I said "beater/brush", it could be either/or, depending on whether you're using the "standard" beater bar, or the upgraded pet brush.

Beater bar making a loud noise

Our DC33 was making the same ratcheting sound immediately upon placing the cleaner/brush head on the carpet. We carefully pulled the beater/brush bar out of the vacuum. Once removed, we pulled the black plastic end nearest the belt off of the center rod. We discovered hair wrapped around each end of the center rod. After the hair was removed and the clean/brush bar was re-installed, the vacuum ran flawlessly. Hope it works as well for you as it did for us.

The bruches are not turning I have checked the reset switch nothing on the bruch

Ok. First check your belt. Is it broken? Then if that's not broken, check the ends of your beater bar for a build up of hair, string, etc. This build up will stop your beater brush from working. If you can clear that stuff away well enough you might get lucky and have it work for a while. Otherwise buy another brush/bar.

Have a dyson vacum and the beater bar stopped working. How do you fix the beater bar.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Check that the brush control dial is in the centre position when upright and then moves forward when the head is released. If the brush bar is still not spinning when switched on in the vacuuming position, check the base for blockages and remove any threads or hairs from the brush bar as outlined in your user guide or on our website.

If you are still having difficulties, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards
Darran

Brush won't turn.

Hi, W/D here.

You'll need to remove the base plate around the beater bar, and remove any hair that is around the ends of the beater bar. It tends to collect there, along with bits of string, ribbon, and such. When you're removing the hair, be aware of how the beater bar fits in the sockets that hold it in the vacuum frame; you have to replace them in the right way or the beater bar will rub.

Best regards, --W/D--

If suction is not what it was, check all of your hoses and connections for vacuum leaks. And the beater roll should always be turning - check out the belt for slippage.
