You need to obtain a windows 7 driver for it, or if one is not available then use a vista driver, make sure the driver is 32bit or 64bit depending on the type of your system.

if your windows 7 is 64bit, then you can't use vista 32bit driver. you have to use a vista 64bit driver.

Or if your windows 7 is 32bit(most are) then you have to use a 32bit driver, the 64bit wont work in that case.

most pc's have on-board sound cards and if it is not working %90 are driver related issues. did u try to reinstall driver and make sure that corresponds with version u r running ie...64bit vs 32 bit vista.

try geting it under windows vista they work sometimes

The Compaq Presario 5000 is not powerful enough to run Vista so XP is your best bet. I assume you have the standard 512MB RAM which will be fine for XP Once you outgrow that you'll need to go for more powerful hardware. By that time the new Windows 7 should have been officially released.
