Maytag SDE515DAYW I have a 3 year old Maytag that is taking along time to dry. I have checked to make it is venting properly and thast the lint filter system is clear. I removed the vent hose from the back and tested the temperature. I do not get a contant temperature. It will get hot on the regular cycle up to 130 degrees and the cools down below a 100 degrees. Any thoughts what might be the problem. I have tested the heat coils and the thermistat ckecks with continuity.

So it is venting hot air in a very strong flow?

Your dryer has a moisture sensor, if it senses that the clothes aren't dry enough it will extend the cycle. A couple easy things to check:

1. Be sure the spin cycle on your washing machine is working properly. If the clothes are too wet when you add them to the dryer your dryer will need to add more time to get the clothes dry

2. Be sure your lint filter is cleaned after each load, and have your dryer exhaust vent cleaned- it could be clogged.

Long drying times can commonly be the result of improper or restricted venting.

Examine your vent hose. How long is it? Too many bends?

Check to make sure your vent hose is clear and free of an restrictions.

If vented outside, is the flap opening properly and free of lint buildup and is the hose clear?

Pull your dryer away from the wall and disconnect the vent hose, use a vacuum or brush to clean out the inside of the hose, sometimes shaking the hose a bit (if possible) will free any lint buildup that your vacuum or brush may have missed.

Don't overlook cleaning out the pipe that the hose connects to on the back of the dryer.

Lastly if you have a lint filter that's on the top like mine, remove the lint filter and check for obstructions there, use a lint filter brush and clean well, this is often overlooked and a major cause of poor drying, overheating, or fire.

The only way that the belt would affect the dry time is if it is very loose.

First look for a clog anywhere from the filter to the dryer vent cap outside. The dryer vent hose should be clean (very little lint present). Any obstruction like a kink in flexible vent line (which shouldn't be used) will slow things down.

If it's none of these things, the thermostat or gas valve may be bad.

Dryer lint not only presents a problem by cluttering up your clothes with white specks, but it can also lead to a dryer fire. While it is impossible to completely eliminate dryer lint, you can take action to drastically reduce lint and the potential problems that come along with excess dryer lint. If your clothes take more than one cycle to dry, you see no lint on the lint screen, the clothes are very hot after drying or you find excess lint on the clothes after drying, you probably have a problem with accumulation of dryer lint in the dryer vent.
Use a dryer vent cleaning brush and clean the dryer vent, or hire a professional to clean the exhaust vent behind your dryer. If your dryer vent is clogged, it will create excess dust in the dryer and on the clothes. The excess lint can eventually catch on fire given the heat load of the dryer.

Have you checked your vent for blockage? Over time, lint build-up in the vent and in the back of the dryer makes your drying time longer and longer. Unplug the dryer, pull it out and disconnect the vent. Using a flashlight and a vacuum, clean out the back of the dryer that connects to the vent and the vent itself. If you have a long vent line, you'll need to find a away to clean it out to clear any blockage. I use a hand-held plumbers snake that rolls up and pulls out as much length as needed. Then spin it around in the vent to knock off lint attached inside the vent tube walls. It may be easier to do this from the outside, but you can do it from the inside too. Check your outside vent cap for blockage and make sure the vent flap outside is not stuck closed. Also make sure when you push the dryer back into place, that you don't squish the vent tube, if it is made of plastic or foil. After reconnecting the vent, turn on the dryer. The air flow may blow out the lint you have dislodged with the snake. Clean out as necessary at the outside vent. I have a long vent line on my dryer, so I have do this annually. This has helped shorten my dry time every time I do it. Of course, cleaning out the filter regularly, does help too. The more often you clean the filter, the less lint that will build up in the vent . Hope this helps. Douglas

About 2/3 full or so. Too much takes a long time to dry. Make sure to clean the lint filter with each load. Once a year, check the dryer vent pipe is clear right to the outside.

Hi, sounds like a plugged vent. Pull the dryer out from the wall and disconnect the vent.Clean out any lint and make sure you have good airflow to the outside.

Older clothes do not produce as much lint as new ones. Also, if your dryer isn't getting as hot as it used to, then you won't get as much lint either. Does it seem to take a bit longer to dry your clothes? Also, check your dryer vent, if the airflow is reduced, the amount of lint that is expelled through the filter will deminish as well. You may have a build up of lint in the vent ducting to the outside that is restricting airflow.

Not too familliar with the gas temp either, but you should definitely take your lint filter out and clean it with soap and water. If you use dryer sheets, they can leave a clear film on your filter and it can be just as bad as a filter full of lint. Try this out, if it works, clean your filter periodically with soap and water to remove the chemical buildup.
