The button board contains a switch that the power button slides in and contacts. This turns the camera on. This may be broken. One way is to test this is to use the docking station or AC power. When you plug into the camera, the camera automatically resets the lens and make a sound, and it becomes responsive to the docking station. If this happens then the camera switch is broken. If there is no reaction, then the camera is dead.

The issue is probably the button board on the camera. To open the camera, remove the six screws and pry open the camera from the bottom of the camera to remove the outer casing. Turn the camera so that the LCD is facing. Remove the aluminum frame around the LCD that holds the button board in place. Check the button board for mis-aligned or damaged discs (ie playback or view buttons) The discs are taped and may creep out of position. If they are out of position, push them back with the blunt edge of a screw-driver. If it looks fine, reassemble the camera.

I lost the power adapter for my M407 digital camera.

You can purchase a ac/dc adpater with multiple plugs from Radioshack or any electronic store for less than $10. Make sure the votage is 3.3 to 4v that you need. Or you can pay about $30 from ebay. Make sure you take the camera and try the plug on so it will fit in. Good luck -James

Power switch fell off

Error the saving the image may require a firmware update to the camera. Go to Hp.com for firmware and instructions on the update.

For the power button, I suggest you take apart the camera: Remove the 5 black and 1 silver screws and case is snapped together from the top. Doing so exposes the camera. Turn the black half of the case apart and inspect your button. The power button should snap back in. Just be careful that it may have (or had) a tab that held the power button in place. This tab may have broken off. Once the button is back in, assemble the camera and screw it shut.

Camera won't turn on

I am assuming that the power does not go on or it immediately turns off as it is turned on.

Try the docking station or the 3.3 AC adapter to the camera. Plug that in to live power. If you hear the lens motor (by default the lens is retracted to closed position when plugged to AC power), then the camera is operational. If not, there is power failure with the camera.

If the lens motor work, then try to turn the camera while plugged to AC power. If it turns on, then there is something wrong with the battery or with the chamber. If the camera does not turn on, then check the button board for a bad power switch.

Check the LCD closely under a bright light when you do this test. You may see a faint a flash of display that disappears. I have not figured out what causes this. This would mean that camera power supply is working but nothing is telling for the camera to stay on.

WOW: All three Solutions Work Fine.
I Removed the 6 small bolts and took the camera apart.
lifted the tape and cleaned the contacts u;nder the tape with alcohol, let them dry then replaced the tape, lineing up the contacts on the tape with the ones on the body of the camera. Put the camera back together and put back the 6 bolts, inserted the batteries and presto: the camera worked. Thanks for the info , it really worked. Wes Reed
