ERROR CODE (F24) ON A WHIRLPOOL FRONT LOAD WASHER

Hi: The whirlpool website could not help me with this one. The code came up and just reset the unit and everything was fine. I just would like to know what it means. The owner's manual does not cover that code.

I would really appreciate any help so I know what happened.

Thanks
Gus

I have a Kenmore (Whirlpool) and my book says the F24 falls within a range of numbers that means an electrical problem but nothing as to the specifics. I have only had this happen once but if it continues I'll just have to call for service. With all the new electronics in appliances, like cars today, the day of fixing them ourselves is long passed.

My book did tell me to change it to rinse&spin and cancel the 2nd rinse if the tub is already full of water. This resets the machine and it should be ok, if not, call service.

According to the tech sheet I have, F24 is a water temp sensor error. If the sensor reading is not within specs during the water heating portion of the wash cycle this code will come up.
To find out for sure what this code is for your washer, or for any other service codes that you might encounter, you can look at the tech sheet that is in the washer. Remove the lower front panel by removing the 3 screws holding it at the bottom. The panel slides down and off. The tech sheet will be in a plastic envelope either in the panel or attached to the side panel of the machine, usually on the right side as you are facing it.
You can remove this panel without affecting any warranty you might have because the pump strainer is located there and is user servicable. Just be sure to keep the tech sheet with the washer so some repairman in the future isn't left scratching his head trying to diagnose a problem without the schematic.
Thanks/Mike

We had the same fault code. I took the back of the washer off (8 sheet metal screws) and laying in there was the problem. The China made connector was split apart. It is the connector that hold the connection between the control unit and temp sensor. I pushed the connector back in place and used some fast drying silicon to hold in in place until the new connector arrives. The unit is working just fine. That says alot for american made!

I encountered the error code problem, called whirlpool & was told that"If the code was not in my owners manual, then I had to call a service repair person. Customers are not supposed to know these error codes." Baloney!
In point of fact, I had a hunch I put too many clothes in that when wet weigh a lot - corduroys & sweatshirts. I removed half the load, & it ran through fine. BUT I am going to get that tech sheet, Thanks for the info. And as far as buying their products? It'll be a LONG time. I resent spending nearly a thousand dollars for a washer & dryer & being insulted. I resent having the company try to coerce me into buying extended warranties for several hundred dollars! That washer & Dryer SHOULD work for ten years at least. That they do not is attributable to greed & GREED is what is destroying our country.

I received the same code and did all of the things they tell you to do. Unplug the machine for 30 minutes, plug back in and code should erase....nope. Change the water temperature sensor....nope. Change the water inlet valves....nope. Change the computer memory board....to expensive. Finally, I read the solution from "RESIK" and pulled the back of the washer off (mine has 12 screws) and as this person says...a small black wire hanging out of the piece of junk connector on the back of the tub was the culprit. I put 2 new connectors on the wires, electrical taped/heat shrinked everything and the washer works as it did when new. You would think a company who charges so much money for a washing machine would spend a couple more dimes on good connectors that would make people like myself a little more comfortable buying them. By the way...Sears is absolutely no help when it comes to anything on the tech side of fixing things so don't bother calling them....Worst customer service I have ever received! You can bet I won't deal with them ever again!!

I received this code and realized my water hoses were kinked. I straightened them, turned the washer off and back on, and it worked just fine.

I have Whirlpool model WFW9200SQA and I am getting error code F24. I found instructions here regarding some resistance measurements I can make to troubleshoot, but I would like a little more clarification.

Hello,

The F24 error code as you have gathered on here refers to the temperature sensor is out of range and must be checked. To access the temp. sensor ya need to remove the lower panel below the door and check the temp. sensor by removing the wire plug to it and measure the sensor to be between 8.8K &9.2K (8.800-9,200 omhs) at room temp.

How can I repair code F24 on whirlpool duet sport washer

This advice is for Whirlpool Duet and Kenmore Elite model FRONT LOADERS displaying the "F24" Error Code. Some of the error codes on these model washers can be erroneous, however. The first step in troubleshooting any error code is to simply unplug the washer for AT LEAST 30 minutes in an attempt to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). This is the main "brain" of the washing machine. If the error code reappears following a CCU reset, then you have a genuine problem.

"F24" is an indication of a water temperature sensor (NTC) error, or Heating Circuit failure. Check the Water Temperature Sensor and check connections to the Water Temperature Sensor.

To access, you will have to UNPLUG your washer and remove the lower access panel under the door. The panel comes off by removing the screws under the bottom edge. HINT: If you place a 2 x 4 under the front feet of the washer, it will make access to the screws much easier. If the panel sticks, a tap on the sides will knock it free. The panel will drop down then come off. The sensor (NTC) is located at the base of the wash tub in the front on the heating element. This will be a small square shaped plug between the heating element terminals. Make sure this plug is secure and not loose or unplugged. It is common for the connector plug to come loose due to vibration. If the plug is intact, check the contacts for corrosion. If everything appears as it should, then unplug the wire harness and take a resistance check. Readings will be as follows:

Temperature Meter Reading
32°F (0°C) 35.9 K ohms
86°F (30°C) 9.7 K ohms
104°F (40°C) 6.6 K ohms
122°F (50°C) 4.6 K ohms
140°F (60°C) 3.2 K ohms
158°F (70°C) 2.3 K ohms
203°F (95°C) 1 K ohms

Roughly...around 9K ohms at room temperature if I'm reading the chart correctly. Take readings as listed and also double check the connector to make sure it is not oxidized. Try cleaning the plug and reconnecting to see if the error code goes away. If not, you will probably have to replace the sensor. If the sensor checks good, take a reading across the heating element terminals. It should indicate about 15 ohms.

Lastly, remove the washer top panel by removing the three screws holding the panel in place in the rear. Once the screws are removed, slide the panel back then off. Locate the Central Control Unit (CCU) directly behind the wash tub. Take a resistance check at the Heating Element Solenoid by removing connector 9 from the CCU (this is the second connector from the RIGHT as facing from the front). A reading across test points 1 & 2 should also read 15 ohms.

My kenmore he frnt load washer has an error code of (f24). tried the manual solution no luck. can you help me?

On this model of HE washer, the F24 code indicates that the water temperature sensor is out of range (23 degrees to 217 degrees F). This usually indicates a bad thermistor (temperature sensor - Key 24 in the image below). A bad wiring connection or a failed control board could also cause this problem.

Good luck

F24 comes on. Just won't work. I have tried turning off power.

The F24 error code indicates a problem with the water temperature sensor. The technical explanation for this code is provided in the first image below. The location of the temperature sensor is shown in the second image. The temperature sensor is Key 24. The third image provides the testing procedure for this component. To access the temperature sensor, unplug the washer and remove the back panel. Unplug the wire harness connection to the sensor and check the resistance with a volt/ohm meter. If the sensor is apparently bad, it will need to be replaced. You can order a new temperature sensor from the Sears PartsDirect website www.searspartsdirect.com . The part number is 8181705. If the thermistor tests good, you could have a water fill problem, a wire harness connection issue or a failed control board that would cause this error code. If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details and the full model number of your washer.
