My scanner fails to scan documents. It either generates a "warming-up" message OR "sorry, scanner could not be initialized. (Scanner parameter error.)" message.

There are many users facing this same error message.
there are options to solve the issue.the upper part of the printer is scanner.you have to remove that upper portion by removing the screws and internal locks on its inner layer.then check out if any dust is got collected on the scanner lens.the lens is a thin glass layer in the scanner that reads the document which you place on the glass.if the dust gets collected on the lens it will show this error messages.but if after cleaning it shows same message that means the internal board is got faulty.there is a mini circuit board beside the scanner glass.internally.so the upper scanner assembly needs replacement.in the scanner assembly set you get the new circuit board.scanner assembly means not the upper scanner glass it only includes the inner assembly and the circuit board of scanner assembly.the cost of new assembly is near to $40.you can get this assembly at any local printer repair shop.they have it in spare or they can easily get it from nearest service center of the hp company.
thanks.

Fail to initializing

The fail to initialize is typically a problem with the document scanner...but not always. here is a quick test you can try. Turn the unit off then power it on again. Slightly lift the copy lid as the unit goes through warm up mode...pay attention to the light color emitting form the scammer. it starts to blink red, then changes to a bright white IF the scanner is working properly. IF the scanner is NOT working properly the scanner stays RED during the warm up.

Hello, I am attempting to scan an important document and the printer keeps saying "set the document on the platen glass" the document is there but it keeps saying the message

The best way to scan images to save on yourcomputer is to use the scanner software on the computer. Not the scan functionon the scanner.
You don't say what type of scanner software you have but usually scannersoftware works this way:
1) Place photo on scanner
2) Open scanner software
3) Using the software, Initiate scan
4) Name the Scanned item and save it to your desired location/folder
Note: some applications will automatically save to --My Documents--My Pictures
5) Repeat process for each pic to be scanned

I have a canon MG5220 printer and unable to scan properly the messages I receive are saying Scanner turned off, disconnected from LAN, code 2,145,50. Printing pictures and all other printing jobs work...

Regarding the Cannon scanner error 2145,50. I note you have tried to fix this, but failed. The actual problem is that the scanner will not communicate with the computer correctly if it is connected through a USB hub. A direct connection to the computer cures it.
I know, I had that problem. I am a retired elctronics design engineer.

Trouble scanning

My old HP4200 scanner running on Windows 98 gave me a lot of trouble not initializing also. The easiest fix for me was to power up the unit a couple of minutes prior to plugging in the USB cord. This gave the lamp time to warm up and then the unit would (home out) or synchronize when the PC found the scanner. Also if I recall, HP had a driver update for that model. Hope this helps.
