If you have lost the combination you need to follow detailed procedure needed to retrieve the key from Sentry. For security reasons there is no other way to get a master combo.
If you need your lost combination, you must send a notarized letter stating you are the owner of the safe. The link below will tell you everything that you will need to get your combination back:
Sentry Group Attn: Dept. 200 882 Linden Avenue Rochester, NY 14625-2784 Please allow 7-10 business days, upon receipt of your request, to receive your combination.
This request may be faxed to us at : 585-381-2940.
The
combination will be faxed or e-mailed back to you only if requested to
do so on your correspondence and you have included a copy of a $15*
money order on your fax (please allow 24 hours for processing your
faxed request).
To pay by MasterCard or Visa please contact
our Customer Service Department at 1-800-828-1438 (please do not fax
your credit card number).
First, has the factory combination been changed? Sentry has the code for the factory combination that they can supply you.
If the factory combination has been changed to something else, then Sentry won't have it.
In that case you need to ask Sentry for a 'reset' code combination. There is (at least) one back door to your safe -- a reset code.
The reset code will not tell you what your combination is, it will simply reset the combination to the factory combination.
You can take it from there.
Now, this isn't as hard as it may sound. There is an actual department that handles this at Sentry because you aren't the only one that cannot open his safe.
They'll want some proof of ownership, some $$ for the service, the safe serial number, and probably a notarized form claiming that the safe is yours.
Get 'hold of Sentry on the web and the rest is just process.
BTW -- this is exactly what the locksmith would do.
I have 2 Sentry 1610 Safes. A fresh alkaline battery MAY open the safe once (maybe twice), and then the same problem. I have a variable DC power supply that I hook up to the battery terminals, set to 9 volts and increase the current until the keypad responds & the deadbolt releases. Sentry has no solution for this problem, as this model is too old & they have no parts or troubleshooting. If you know someone with a small DC Power Supply, you can get your safe open / closed.
I have a different model but I had the same problem. Called customer service and they had me push up on the handle and enter the code. That didn't work but then they had me tap the safe with a rubber mallet 5 times above the panel and 5 times to the right of the panel. That worked for me. Hope one of those works.
