My 37'' Toshiba LCD tv went black whilst viewing a program. It was like a splodge of black in the middle of the screen, which then spread outward and within 3-4 seconds the entire screen was black. The effect was rather like a cinema film 'melting' in a projector.
The set continued to produce sound for a few minutes, but is now totally dead.
Green light is on, but I get nothing on screen, not even bluescreen or menus. Problem is same regardless of source (Sky, DVD, etc) although I managed to get sound from a DVD source.
The black screen appears to be flickering between alternate shades of black. Nothing in the user manual covers these symptoms. I tried the usual, turn off/on again, unplug, wait a while, try again, etc. but there is only a flickering blackness. It looks like the actual LCD and/or backlight has died.
I would not have expected such dismal failure of a product after only 18 months of casual usage. I will not purchase a Toshiba screen ever again.
Is it terminal?
