In that case it needs repairing. It sounds like the button is inoperative. You could try electrical contact cleaner. Or return for repair. Or as Larry says, buy a used laptop :>)
If you need to replace the gray pen insert, just go buy a nintendo DS replacement stylus and remove the same gray tip from that (carefully **** the stylus lengthwise about a 1/2" then pry out the stylus tip) and glue it in your CyberPocket pen. It's close enough.
You can also buy a replcament Vsmile controller with writing pad, and use the whole pen. (the ds stylus is, of course, cheaper!)
Hi, I just ordered 2 pens - the price was $5 per pen including S+H. I was told that the globe that we have ( smart globe, purchased in 2003 or so ) is a discontinued model so I just ordered an extra one just in case. The pens should arrive within 10-15 business days according to the costumer rep. Good luck!
You can buy replacement pens online and it's really easy to replace. Just unscrew the panel where the pen cable enters the unit. I think there are two more screws holding down the pen once inside. I've don't it with my kid's LeapPad. I transplanted a pen from a faulty pad but have seen replacement pens online.
Just Google "LeapPad pen" and you will find many links to replacement pens. Amazon carries them as well as Walmart. Check Toys 'R Us if you have one locally.
