The cap does absorb the gas and it does swell. You might want to try putting the cap in the freezer for 5 or 10 minutes. It worked for me and the cap went on real easy. no problems
I literally **** my pants trying to take the cap off my poulan p4018wtl,, not once but twice
Are you storing it with fuel in the tank? You don't provide a model number. I suspect she is a little long of tooth. The vented fuel cap didn't have to deal with the ethanol added to most fuels today. My Pioneer fuel cap swelled when I put her away wet, now I grunt a little removing it. A new fuel cap may only solve this problem for a short while. Isn't ethanol wonderful? Fuel line replacement is next. HTH

No problem with my Husky, 2 Macs, Poulan 1800 (Craftsman). or Remington Yardmaster; only the 2 Pioneers. Some Poulans are better values than some low end Stihls IMO. I've been using 100LL Av-Gas for a while... guarantee no ethanol! Lou
If you are serious about a professional grade chainsaw I think Dolmar is the most saw for the least money. At least in the size I prefer. Every manufacturer makes some turds, some average and some great saws. Buy the great ones that fit your needs. Heavy, underpowered, and over priced (most homeowner grades) aren't great saws. Read the rabid brand backers inputs critically. I considered a Stihl 361... I just couldn't scrape up $700.00. Lou

I have a Jonsered with the same problem, I think it's the ethanol. A friend says his Stihl cap swelled tight too, I also have 2 Husqvarna saws ]one is 25 years old] ,but no problem with them. I removed the rubber seal from the Jonserred cap
and lightly brushed the threads with a Nyalox wheel [abrasive inpregnated nylon].
It worked fine for a while, but has swelled up again. I noticed the interior of the fuel tank is developing cracks also. I think I'll brush it again, remove the fuel filter and line, degrease everything and try to seal the tank and the cap with something that isn't affected by gasoline or alcohol.
They have been putting ethanol in gasoline long enough that the chainsaw manufacturers should have corrected the problems, and offering new caps for their saws.
I suspect we will find out that they are putting profit before doing what is right for the people who purchase their products.
To cut down on the other problems ethanol causes, I started using StarTron Enzyme Fuel treatment. The manufacturer Starbright, says if the carb is gummed -up their product will even clean that out. If anyone is interested in more information their web address is www.starbright.com.

the saw is a pp4218avx and I use gas that does not contain ethanol (at least the pump says no ethanol). A friend with a 18' poulan wildthing has the same problem.I called Poulan and they said the is no recall or report of this being a widespread problem but after posting my ? I looked more online and it appears to be a very common problem. Cheap materials maybe? Gonna save up and buy a real saw, a Stihl!
