V1401 slips in all gears; what to adjust?

V1401 slips in all gears; used to stop/brake when placed in 2nd or 3rd, but seems to be getting worse. Is adjusting the planetary brake something a slightly mechanically-inclined person could do (assuming that will solve the problem)?

Take the top cover off,in front of you is the brake.Turn the mixer on and you will see it spin (put it in 1st gear),stop the mixer.on the right side you will see a pin that catches the brake flange,if its worn you can replace it,if its not worn then the brake needs adjusting as it acts like a clutch.Let me know,im a hobart tech band repair these units often.

You should adjust or repair the clutch, the brake doesn't have anything to do with it.

Hobart A200 transmission, marble sounds, resistance with shaft support installed

It sounds like there may be a few potential issues that could be causing the resistance you are experiencing:
  1. Incorrect installation of the slow speed gear or key - If the slow speed gear or key were installed incorrectly, this could cause increased resistance in certain gears. Double-check the installation of these components to ensure they are properly oriented and positioned.
  2. Stuck gears - If the gears and key are stuck on the drive shaft, this could cause increased resistance. Try removing the gears and key again, and make sure they are clean and free of any debris before re-installing them.
  3. Improper alignment of the gears - If the gears are not properly aligned, this could cause increased resistance. Check to make sure the gears are properly seated and aligned with each other.
  4. Damage to the worm wheel - The freshly chewed up center of the worm wheel could be causing increased resistance. Consider replacing the worm wheel if it appears to be damaged.
Overall, it may be helpful to consult the Hobart service manual for your specific model to ensure all components are installed correctly and to troubleshoot any additional issues that may be causing the resistance.

Locks up in 3rd gear after rebuild

Jeff your almost there....it must be the shifter into third....it must not slide fully into third....check for wear marks on the worm gear....and try running it without the protective cover on to see how it changes from 1st, into 2nd, then third...that mechanisim if not engaging totally in third.

Hobart D300 is stuck in speed 3, any ideas?

Best guess is that the gear for 3rd speed is seized together with it's brass bushing and the center, large transmission shaft. I don't recall which gear is for 3rd, but the transmission has two gears (2nd and 3rd speed) which have brass bushings in them. The brass bushing should spin freely on the center shaft (when in final position - sometimes they pull off the shaft tough, but spin freely when in final position, my opinion is that this is OK), and the gear should spin freely of the brass bushing.
My guess is that the 3rd speed gear, being seized to the center shaft, cannot freely idle on the center shaft, which would result in being stuck in 3rd gear.

Hobart N-50 mixer clangs on 1st and 2nd speed

CE is the marking that shows its european conformant.  I think the difference is mostly in terms of the no volt interlock switch.  This means the KA style N50 bowl won't work with the CE models - too low.
