My high end stopped working in both my speakers

Audio Equipment: Is the loud popping sound when you plug/unplug your speakers bad for them?
Most speaker cones are driven from a power amplifier.. The pop - like you said - is a transient spike. But the important thing here is that it gets amplified up through the pre-amp and into the power amp.. Speakers usually move in the ol' in-out fashion with respect the the voltage at the input.. and a big spike could loosen the cone from its suspension mechanism.. The higher the power and the more delicate the cone - the more the danger to the speakers ( what is normal for a woofer cone, could end blowing up a tweeter cone) . For e.g. In live events, where high output PA speakers are used, this is a very serious issue - because such a spike could throw the speaker cone out of its place, and it wouldn't work from that point on. For this reason, some high end audio equipment have a limiter at the output, that prevents signal from exceeding a certain predefined limit. So any occuring transients would never hit the cone at a level that is unhealthy to them.

Most home audio equipment tends to operate at lower levels. That being said, there is still some damage inflicted on the speakers - just maybe not of the same magnitude.. especially the smaller ones.

If your system has a remote control, it might be wise to hit a mute button just before you change to another input... or maybe find a way to turn off just the speakers (if separately powered) before you interchange the connection

Sound like either the crossover or the driver has blown or, if you're lucky there is a loose connection internally if you have only checked external connections.

The problem is bad high freq. IC TDA7293.
There is no pasive crossover.

Plug in one a at time using the same input. Take the left speaker and the left input wire. Plug the wire from the mixer into the one speaker if it sounds ok then unplug the speaker and replace it with the right speaker. If it sounds ok replace the wire with the right wire. This will tell you that each speaker is working and each cable is working. If you switch speakers and they sound different then the possibility of a blown high end driver in one. If they sound ok each by it self but the high end suffers when they are both hooked up then the possibility of the speakers might be. Not sure what the sub has to do with the whold setup. Any further questions call me at the store.

I am not sure how you are measuring the power output to verify it is less than 200 watts. With a true RMS voltmeter you should see 28.28 volts RMS across a net speaker load of 4 ohms. If you use only one 8 ohm speaker, you will get 120 watts. If you are getting the 28 volts there is nothing wrong with the amp. You MAY have blown the speakers OR not generating much bass due to processing in an EQ. I assume you are using at least 15 inch speakers if you want to feel bass. Look up your speakers specs... you will need speakers capable of 32 Hz to feel much. With this amp your speakers should have aa total rating not less than 400 to 600 peak watts or around 300 watts RMS continuous power rating. Using a lot of high end EQ will keep the amp busy at the high end and reduce the power available at the bass end.

Testing the driver with an ohmmeter is incomplete test. Sometimes the magnets break off the drivers rendering no sound. Sometimes the voice coil shorts and if you don't interpret the ohmmeter readings correctly you can overlook a faulty driver. Remove the horn and look for damage such as lost magnet from the back. Also the peavey cabs have a protection circuit so if you did not try another speaker to the same wores going to the driver, it may be the Polyfuse on the protection circuit or other components.

Probably the soundboard is resonating. If you out your hand on it or the strings it will probably stop resonating if it was just on the verge of feeding back. This is the main reason why solid body guitars were invented in the first place.

There are ways to minimise this, however. Speaker placement, eg have the speakers beside you and facing away to the audience. Stand further from the speakers. Use an eq pedal and lower the gain around the resoant frequency. Use a chorus/flanger pedal. This can help smear the frequencies and reduce feedback. If you google "reduce acoustic guitar feedback" you should find other ways. Also, if there is a way to increase the gain of the pickup by placement, do that.

If your guitar is not connected and the cable alone causes the oscillation, I would certainly question the QUALITY of that cable.

Poorly sheilded cables can pick up ground loops.

If you short the contacts of the cable at the guitar end and that stops the oscillation, I would try a higher quality instrument cable. MAKE SURE the cable you are using is an INSTRUMENT cable and not a SPEAKER cable which I can guarantee would cause the problem.

The Line 6 amps are NOT noted for reliability so I would NOT let that oscillating conditipon persist for any length of time.

Do NOT use excessive gain at the front end,,, use higher master volume and less front end gain if you are having ground loops.
