HI , FIRST UNDO BOTH SIDE COVER BOLTS ON THE CHAIN COVER AFTER MAKING SURE THE CHAINBRAKE IS IN THE OFF POSITION,[BRAKE LEVER PULLED BACK].TAKE THE TWO NUTS OFF REMOVE THE COVER,LIFT THE BAR SLIGHTLY AND PUSH IT TO THE REAR.THAT WILL LOOSEN THE CHAIN SLIP THE CHAIN OFF THE BAR AND REMOVE THE BAR ,ONCE THE BAR IS OUT OF THE WAY ,YOU TAKE THE CHAIN OFF THE SPROCKET BEHIND THE CENTRIFICAL CLUTCH AND SLIP IT OUT AROUND THE BACK. AFTER CLEANING EVERY THING ,PUT IT ALL BACK THE SAME WAY .YOU WILL HAVE TO SCREW THE ADJUSTER BACKIN SO AS TO EASILY FIT THE BAR TO THE ADJUSTER PIN ,IT IS NOT DIFFICULT AND AS YOU SEE THE PARTS IT WILL FALL INTO PLACE

Makita 2012NB slipping

My makita2012NB was also slip too. I tried to fix it out then I found if I screwed the screw under the rollers tighter it could reduce this problem.

Motor runs but chain doesnt

Remove the bar and chain, then inspect the drive shaft and sprocket for broken or missing parts. If the shaft turns, then the transmission is probably ok. If the shaft doesn't turn, then the gear box has a failed component. Hope this helps!

Chain off track. How do I get it back on.

Release the chain brake if equipped. Remove the drive end cover plate from the rear of the bar. Remove the bar and chain. Lay the chain out on a table or bench to inspect for sideways bending, breakage, or drive tooth damage. Inspect and clean the bar and it's oil passages in the drive end, particularly the small passages that run out to the chain groove from the large oil holes on each side. Inspect the drive sprocket for any tooth damage. Run the motor without the bar and chain for a few moments--oil should ooze out of a port on the side of the motor case where the bar fits to. If all ok, insert the bar into the space for it, pass the chain over the sprocket with the bottom run of teeth cutting toward you, and work the chain over the bar. Pull the bar outwards to tighten the chain, and fit the cover back in place (you may have to back off [CCW] the chain adjustment screw several turns). Fit clamp nut(s) (bolts) finger tight, then adjust the chain screw CW until the lower chain pulls up to the bar, but not so tight that the chain can't be moved by hand. Tighten the cover nuts and recheck chain tension. Make sure the chain is fully and carefully sharpened as a dull chain will quickly loosen due to heat and be thrown off again. Hope this helps!

What size replacement chain do i need for a makita 5012b chainsaw

I went here:
Oregon Bar & Chain Selector
http://www.oregonchain.com/pro/lookups/selguide.aspx?BusId=OCS&SellReg=USA&LangId=ENG
Chose :Makita;5012B;12";All:All:All"
There are different gauges and numbers of drive links depending on the bar in use. Please for your safety stop in a local saw shop with your existing chain. It can be used as a template to fabricate a replacement in a few minutes (inquire about gauge and # of drive links). Once you have a new one leave the old one with them and for a small additional fee they will sharpen it.

If these don't work return it, maybe it is defective. Test the new one in the store.

Makita 5012B chain cannot be tightened

some chainsaws have different knotches where the bar locks onto the saw. loosen the nuts and see if you can move the bar.
