IF not the DVD, maybe the lens/reader???

the reason why your old dvd player doesn't read the new dvd's is that might not compatible format or not the same region.

First tell me how old it is. If its new, then you can replace it if it is in warranty. If its old go for new one. If all the DVD is not reading then there is problem in the dive lens.

First of all, right click on my computer, go to properties, hrdware, device manager, then see in the section of CD/DVD, to confirm whether you are using CD or DVD drive. If you are sure it's a DVD drive, then follow the above steps.

old dvd rom can not read the new dvd disk only the reson software.
sorry to tell,you should change the dvd rw newly instead of old

your dvd drive has become faulty...it lost the potential to read DVD...but still it will read all kinds of CDs....try cleaning the dvd lens once using lens cleaner....
if it still does not read then you need to buy a new dvd writer...
it is not recommended to repair the old one....
it will not work good even after servicing,it may work for one or two times again it will not work....
new dvd writer for desktop computer will cost around 1100rupees....
for laptops you it will cost even more....
its better to buy an external dvd drives in that case for laptops....

you have to check
1) new DVD master/slave setting, it should be set to slave cause your old one set master
2) go bios setting check IDE device should display the DVD device at slave position.
3) start windows it should be there

try to use player on old tv again does it still work 4 yrs old dvd player is to old for new days dvs on new tv u def wann upgrade to 108p upscaling player samsung makes with hdmi cable to new tv flat screen or reg coneection will look 10 times better also older toshibia cant play read new dvds its terrible

i thing its a laserunit you need open that dvd and try cleen laser,but very very easy,its a little pot on back laserunit its can be set to,but if that not help,find laserunit number and try find new on internet :o(

That is most common problem of DVD player recorder,when getting old cannot read DVD discs,only video cd and audio cd,sometimes does'nt read video cd also. The problem is in inside of the unit the DVD processor is defected already or maybe the solder is crack, need to resolder again or reheat the processor solder, or that processor change with a new one,so the performance will back again,good as new.The lense of that unit is good,i can assure that.

its the new disc setup for dvd's there using a new dvd conversion set up disc old dvd players just dont read the new dvd's just the other night did what you did but i went out and bought a new dvd player gotta keep up with technology
if you have warranty return for update or buy new technology it sucks i know but just put old dvd in another room have fun with the old one when you buy the new one
