Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+ Logo
Anonymous Posted on Nov 17, 2009

My liftmaster pro started to open and then stoped. Learn LED is flashing 5 times. Pushing openerer, I hear a click but no motor noise. Also, pressing the light button does not turn it on. When I pull plug, flashing light goes off until I press the open button and it starts flashing.

The LED flashing 5 times is the code for RPM sensor or motor overload. The RPM sensor is a small circuit board just in front of the motor.

I have a liftmaster 1/2 hp garage door opener and when I push the remote and hear 2 clicks from the motor, and the led light flashes 5 times. I have unplugged it and the system resest, but then does the...

UNPLUG THE UNIT TO RESET
TRY TO OPERATE MOTOR. IF IT STILL FLASHES 5 TIMES AND THE MOTOR MOVES 5-6 INCHES, CHECK THE RPM SENSOR - A LITTLE CUP ON THE MOTOR SHAFT WITH A SENSOR.
IF MOTOR DOESN'T OPERATE AT ALL MOTOR MAY BE OVERHEATED - WAIT 30 MIN. & TRY AGAIN. IF THE MOTOR STILL DOESN'T MOVE IT IS MOST LIKEKY A BAD CIRCUIT BOARD.

Craftsman GDO don't not respond other than a click noise when remote or wall unit is pressed. When power is removed, then restored, wall switch is pressed, unit clicks, then green LED on back of unit...

The unit is flashing the code for 'motor overheated or RPM sensor failure'. If the door is stuck in the open position it could be because the trolley is jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. Remove the bolt and run the opener until the door is closed. Now on the side of the motor unit you will find the 'up limit' adjustment. Turn this 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Be sure to replace the bolt.

I am not able to program my Homelink (car) opener using the Learn button on my Liftmaster Formula I. I used the Rolling Code program. I went through all the steps, indicator light flashed rapidly, I...

  1. Clear out anything previously programmed into the in-car system from the factory by holding down on the 2-outside buttons simultaneously, until the in-car LED starts flashing rapidly. This may take up to a minute (in most cases, the key should be on auxilary, and/or the car door must be shut).
  2. Decide which button you want to make to be your in-car garage door transmitter. Hold your transmitter up near the selected button, pressing both the garage door remote and the selected in-car transmitter button simultaneously. Hold down on the buttons until the in-car, LED light flashes rapidly. This sets the in-car remote transmitter to be your garage door openers make transmitter, but you are not done. You now need to make this in-car transmitter your personal transmitter.
3. Go to the Learn Button on your garage door opener. The button is usually next to the area where the floppy antenna is connected to the motor head. With Genie it is most often behind the light lens, and an indicator light flashes red when pressed. With Sears or Liftmaster (Chamberlain) it is near, or part of, the terminal screw board, and is a red, green or purple square button with a green, amber or purple indicator light. Press this learn button momentarily. The indicator light will turn on and blink if Genie or otherwise stay lit. For Genie systems, go back to the in-car transmitter button you programmed and press this button 3 or 4 times, or until the door starts moving. This should set your in-car transmitter to your garage door opener. For Liftmaster, Sears, or Linear Megacode press and hold the in-car button you programmed until the garage opener light flashes. Your in-car is now programmed to operate your door.

If this doesn't work your car and homelink may not be compatible.

Re-program Chamberlain garage door openere.

Try programming your opener this way. Locate the smart/learn button which is just to the left of all those white wires. Press and hold the button on your remote while you press and immediately release the smart/learn button. Do this for each remote. Do not hold the smart/learn button in as it will erase the memory and your remotes will not work.

Liftmaster 1/2 hp won't open

Turn the gears again by hand like you did and lower the door a couple feet. Now find the 'up limit' on the side of the motor unit and using a small screwdriver turn this about 3 turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Now you can go ahead and operate the door.

Craftsman Garage Opener Clicks only and LED blinking 5 times

Just fixed this problem tonight. Had the 5 blink/flash thing. Opened it up and saw that the motor wasn't spinning so it wasn't a bad rpm sensor. Jumped the red to black and then the blue to black to verify motor worked. At that point assumed it was the logic board not telling the motor to start, but I could hear the click of the relay. Pulled the logic board out and noticed a solder joint that had failed directly behind one of the relays. Resoldered that joint and the garage door opener worked again like a dream. Hope that helps someone else.
