Look in the manual. There is likely something about field flashing the magnetic field. According to the Briggs and Straton web site, the easiest way to do this is to.
1) start the generator
2) plug an electric drill into the generator (without drill bit)
3) make sure drill is set to forward direction (if a reversable drill.
4) pull the trigger on the drill.
5) If the drill does not start, spin the drill's chuck clockwise (When looking down at the chuck from the drill bit end). Spin counter-clockwise if holding it like a pistol and pointing away from yourself.
6) Do this several times (hard) until the the generator will kick in and suddenly make the drill spin at full speed.
Be careful not to drop the drill or poke someone with it as you celebrate success.

I have a craftsman 725 series Briggs and Stratton engine power propelled electric start 22" multi-cut model # 917.370930 that will not move when I pull the handle

ive gotten this one brought into me a few times for this exact problem , seems the problem allways stems from the safety handle cable , stretching and not providing the relief of the safety blade stop break , I just install a new cable on the handle and the trip arm and it works again

No power output

Excessive load on the generator may have damaged the power head, but verify that the circuit breaker at the output plug is not tripped before yuo attempt any other repairs.

Try the easy thing first, check connections and lube switch with mfg suggested lubricant. Sounds like a corrosion problem to me.

Craftsman 5600 watt generator won't stay on and white smoke pours out when started.

try running it with nothing hooked up if it runs fine, then the power draw is to much for it that would cause it to hunt !!!

Colman powermate 5000 no putting out any electric

If you are getting some power, even if it only 2vac then you may have to flash the excitor circuit. If nothing then take the end cap off the generator and clip your meter to the metal portion of the brush holders or exposed wire from them. Start the generator and see if any voltage is coming from the brushes. Even if there is nothing try flashing the excitor.

To flash the excitor circuit on a coleman ( the generator is built by generac) you need a 12 volt battery. You quickly apply 12 volts via your 120vac recepticals. NO MORE THAN ONE OR TWO SECONDS! Then check you ac voltage.

Give this a few attempts and if this does not do it, I would say the winding repair did not work. Buy another generator and use the engine for a go cart or backup engine since this generator is so cheap.
