inspect under the washer. look at springs for broken or one that may have come loose. inspect drive belt for broken or off pulleys. the drive belt is not turning pulleys, belt maybe broke or outa pulley grooves. or belt tension springs are broken or unhooked. good luck!!
I received an Inglis Washing machine from soneone on freecycle. They thought the belt had broken, doesn't have a belt, it's gear driven. I'd bet the noise you hear is the coupling going out, (rubber). Good luck.
Sounds like a whirlpool or inglis type belt drive with a loose belt or bad basketdrive[clutch]. Could be the set screw backed out on the basket, thats a pretty common problem. I'd need a model number to know who made it though.
is it a top load washer?Iwould cheak your pump to see if the bearing is tight just turn pully to see if it turns easy.If that does not work it may need a tub bearing kit and that would mean calling a repair man

Own a Kenmore? Department store brands can be a pain as it is difficult to figure out which manufacture has made your product. This link here should help to find out which manufacture has made your Kenmore Appliance.
Leaks water...check the pump first. The fill valve and hoses may be the next step. See how to take apart info. With the use of plastic drain hoses on many machines today, this has become a common leak trouble maker. The drain hose can rub the wall or a pipe and this will rub a hole in the drain hose.
does the water pour out when you put the drain hose close to the ground if it does then make sure your pump isnt blocked if it isnt then youll need to replace the pump most pumps have 3 little fins in them if you can stop those fins with a screw driver when pump is going then it deffinatley needs replacing as you cannot fix them sorry for the bad news m8
