Computer will not boot up

Windows XP will start to boot up, then just goes blank, and tries to boot up again.... over and over!! Driving me crazy!!

I had a similar problem with my pc at work, we found out eventually ii was a corrupt RAM which was installed that was causing the problem

Hi Kimbug!

Have you added any new hardware or software? USB printers, drivers, anything like that? If you have added hardware, remove it.
If not.
Try going into safe mode, by pressing the F8 key twice a sec at boot up. You will be presented with several options. Use the up arrow to go to safemode, and press enter. A bunch of text will scroll up the screen, and it will go into safe mode. Click on the your ID and put in password if you have to. A popup will tell you it is in safemode, click yes, and see if it goes completely into windows.
If it does, go to start>run>Accessoris>System tools> system restore. Click on "restore my computer to an earlier date". That will give you a calender. Pick a date in bold where your pc worked and the click ok. You machine will reboot. If it works ok, and you have installed some new software that caused this, remove it.

Sounds like you have a virus or some kind of spyware. try putting in the XP install disk and booting up, then run a virus scan and a check Disc utility and see if that fixes the problem

Umm... can't boot to windows at all so the program that was provided wont work, can't reinstall windows automatic disk eject on startup!
Hi,

Restart your computer. Immediately after the screen goes blank for the first time, press the F8 key repeatedly. The Windows Advanced Options menu appears. If the menu does not appear, restart your computer and try again. Use the cursor keys on your keyboard (your mouse will not work) to select Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER. Windows XP attempts to start.

If you recently installed new hardware, shut down your computer and disconnect the hardware. Then, restart Windows XP and troubleshoot your hardware to get it working properly.

Restart your computer and press F8 again. This time, choose Safe Mode and press ENTER. Windows XP attempts to start in Safe Mode, which does not automatically start programs and hardware, and displays very primitive graphics. If Windows XP starts successfully in Safe Mode, you can remove any programs or updates you have recently installed. Then, restart your computer normally.

This sound like you might have corrupted windows systems files. See if you can restart the PC using the last known configuration. You can do the by pressing the F8 key during the windows startup process.

After booting process done. Screen goes blank and Keyboard not working only Mouse cursor is dispaly and working on the blank screen in My acer Laptop.
Try booting the system to Safe mode.

To boot to safe mode:

Restart the computer. As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, F8 key on your keyboard. When Windows Options menu appears, scroll to select the Safe mode menu item, and then press Enter.

Select "Last known good configuration" then press Enter.

If that doesn't work reboot again and keep tapping on F8 to Safe Mode and instead of selecting "last known good configuration" select "Repair Your Computer"

  2. Turn off your computer and change your BOOT order to boot from CDs first.
  3. Turn your computer back on.
  4. Press any key on your keyboard when it asks you to.
  5. Press enter when you see a blue screen, one of the options should say, "To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.".
  6. Press enter to start the windows set up.
  7. Accept the Licence and Agreement and confirm that the setup is searching for current versions on XP.
  8. Press "R" when the set up has found your current version of XP.
  9. Notice that the Set up is deleting all your windows xp files and replacing them. (This will not cause loss of data)

Booting problem
Try putting the computer into safe mode by holding down on the F8 button and selecting safe mode during the boot process. Once you get to the safe mode screen and windows appears, restart the computer.

If that doesn't fix the problem you will have to restore Windows.

first of all try to start your laptop in safemode
1 start laptop
2 continously press F8 key
3 when you see menyu select "start windows in safe mode"

if your computer starts with same mode and you see the desktop
then you just have to restore your xp with earlier system restore check point
and if you dont see desktop in safe mode also then you must have to install win xp again

steps for restore windows xp
1 start
2 programs
3 accassories
4 system tools
5 system restore
6 chose restore system to earlier time
then select any earlier date in calender at which computer is working properly
and click restore
it restores your xp and restart your pc and your problem will be solved

if still having problem then you must reinstall windows xp

MONITOR GOES BLANK
Did you recently change or install a program that would affect the resolution and card output? Try booting into safe mode by holding the "shift" key during boot. From there right-click on the desktop and hit 'properties'-> 'display properties' -> 'settings' , check your resolution and drop it to 800x600 and then reboot. If everything goes back in normally make sure you have the right windows drivers for your video card. You can also check the driver version and settings while you're in safe mode. Sometimes the windows update drivers can act screwy and I would recommend getting them directly from your card manufacturer.
