When camera is plugged in the computer and is one, the charge lamp/flash lamp flashes and won't let you do anything like upload pictures etc. You have to disconnect from the USB port to have any function....

When the camera is connected to a computer, you can control the transfer from the computer. The camera is just a dumb slave when connected, leaving control to the computer.

You might want to consider NOT connecting the camera to the computer when download pictures. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

How to upload a picture from my nikon coolpix l18 to my computer

First, install the included software that came with your camera.

Next, attach the camera to the computer with the included USB cable.

Turn on your camera, and when the run box appears, click on "Copy pictures to a folder on my computer using Nikon Transfer."

After that, click on "start transfer," and after the transfer is complete, you can detach your camera.

In addition to Nikon Transfer there are plenty of other photo catalog software packages out there, some free, some not, that can transfer and catalog your pictures so you can quickly find pictures from Susie's birthday party, for example. Just do a google search for "photo catalog software".

Nikon CoolPix P80 Transfer software does not activate.

I had a similar problem. I uploaded my Nikon transfer program with no problem, and first time had no problem loading photos. Second time the transfer prompter did not come up on the screen. My manual said something about having a fully charged battery. I tried re-charging my camera battery, and tried again. It worked! The program came up and my photos uploaded.

Uploading Doesn't Work

ok

Do you have any disk or software package of your camera? you need to install it to the computer. It serves as driver for your camera.

to import your pictures in the camera i suggest that use your memory card if you have a card reader to transfer files.
