The Bunn coffee maker does not operate as most coffee makes do. You cannot leave the Bunn in the off position and then just flip the switch to on and pour the water in. You will always get cold coffee if you do this. It takes time for it to heat the water. The On/Off switch should be left in the On position all the time. This keeps the water hot in the tank, thus providing hot water when you need to make coffee. You then just pour the cold water in the top, shut the lid, and have a pot of coffee in 3 minutes. The On/Off switch is a vacation switch, and you use it only when you are not going to use the coffee maker for a couple of days. Older Bunn coffee makers did not even have an On/Off button. You simply unplugged them when going on vacation. So turn the switch to the On position and leave it there. The unit will then work as designed. Forget how other coffee makers work, this is a Bunn and it is the fastest coffee maker you can buy and must be left on all the time. that way the water stays hot and the unit will keep it that way.

Forgot to mention that before you ever turn the switch to the On position make sure the storage tank is full of water.
Now, If I am misunderstanding your question and you are saying the switch was on for at least 15 minutes prior to you pouring the water in then you either have no voltage to the coffee maker, as in a GFIC receptacle being tripped, or the heating element in the tank is defective. Make sure the GFIC receptacle is working and has not tripped in your kitchen.

Is the defective heating element in the tank covered by Bunn?

Hi

I believe the issue is with the water inlet valve assembly going bad and should be replaced, this unit has two valve one for cold and another for hot. You can test the valve first if that is fine then check the pressure switch which is part#4 in this diagram. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

I need an instruction booklet to set the timer for the coffee.

Go to Hamilton Beach dot com, pull down customer suppot menu, click on use and care guides, type in product and model number, click send and your manual will load. Print it out so you have it. Setting the timer is a piece of cake, Hold down the program button until the clock flashes. While still holding the program button down, set the timer for whatever time you want the pot to perk. Let go of the program button. To check if the timer is set right right, puch the prigram button just long enough to see what time it is set for. If it's right, prepare the pot the night before, push the program button to set and forget about it. It will perk at the time you set every morning. Katherine

Bubbles in measuring column

I had the same problem. How Frustrating. What I discovered is if you pour the water in really slow, the bubble do not appear.

This was one of 3 problems I had this this maker. The other two were.

  • Could never get the clock set correctly. The buttons are very cheaply made. Would push the time advance button and the numbers would not change. Started acting whacky, flipping between the hours, minutes and program functions.
  • For 3 mornings straight the removal of pot lid gave me troubles. Was like trying to crack a safe. Needless to say, after the forth morning attempt, it lost the battle and broke.
I have been a Krups fan for many many years, dating back to the early 80s. After this even, I have become VERY disappointed with the quality of their consumer product line.

Wont brew a full pot

I had the exact same problem with my machine making 1 cup at a time.

Here is the solution:

1. make solution of 1 part vinegar & 2 parts water.

2. pour solution into resivoir and set for 2 hours

3. run solution through machine (yes, you will have to stand there and keep pushing the buttons).

4. take same solution (now very hot) and run it through machine 5 or 6 times

5. make fresh solution and continue process until machine runs full cycle.
