Had problems with my compaq EVO N 180. Hp suggested I upgrade bios. During upgrade computer seized. Now it will not start. HOw can i jumper the bios.

You can attempt to reset Bios By Pulling the CMOS battery, you will need to disassemble laptop, Not sure offhand if you have a plug in battery or one thats soldered on... Basically in a laptop there are 3 main types of Cmos battery connections.. 1 is plugged in to the motherboard using a 2 wire plug... 2 is a battery tray on the motherboard that the battery snaps into and out of... 3 is a battery that is soldered to the motherboard from both the positive and negative sides....

With any 3 of these.. You need to remove the battery... HOLD the power button (make sure your laptop battery is removed as well and unplug the AC Adapter... )
Then Reattach CMOS Battery and reassemble and attempt to power on

Note: The Soldered On Batteries Can Be Desoldered and removed...

Do Not Remove the solder from the contact points!! You need to use a pointed flat tool and your soldering gun... Use your tool to pry the battery away from its connection pad... To Do This, First Heat the soldering gun, carefully heat the 2 contact pads of the CMOS battery, as your heating them get the solder to melting point and then quickly pry the battery off the board, heat the 2 connection pads again and pull the battery away from the motherboard.... You should have the 2 contact pads still with solder left on them...

How can I change boot sequence in Compaq Evo N410c?
You need to access your BIOS configuration. 1. To do this, shutdown your computer and boot it by pressing the power button. 2. You need to hit F10 when the computer first powers up in order to get into BIOS (Note that the key is usually different for different computers. If F10 doesnt work, try F2, F12, Delete or F9. 3. Once in the BIOS, you should find the boot sequence option.

I have faced a problem on Compaq Evo W4000 that there is an error i.e 1801 microcode patch error so how i can remove that error
Hello,

Give a try to update BIOS. Click here and follow the intrsuction

  1. Obtain a formatted 1.44-MB diskette and place it in your A: drive.
  2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive. The file that is downloaded is an executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.
  3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to build the ROMPaq diskette.
  4. Place the newly created diskette in the A: drive of the computer to be upgraded or restored and cycle system power to boot from the ROMPaq diskette.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to select the Compaq System ROM and flash the firmware. WARNING: DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR ATTEMPT TO REBOOT THE COMPUTER DURING THE UPGRADE PROCESS!!!

Blue Screen of death
According to this link, the memory of Compaq Evo N610c can be upgradable to 1024 mb.

Memory Upgrade for Compaq Evo N610C, the Compaq Evo N610C takes the PC2100 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs Memory Type, and comes installed with of Memory. You can upgrade your Compaq Evo N610C to up to a maximum of 1.0 GB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with standard Memory installed. For best system performance use the maximum amount of allowed Memory per slot for your system. (Souce: http://www.memorystock.com/memory/CompaqEvoN610C.html)

So you have to install 512mb memory module on each slot to make up 1024mb of memory.

Did you install 512mb memory module on each slot or did you just install 1GB memory module in one slot?

Try to go back to 256mb RAM and see if you will have the same blue screen error. If you did not receive any blue screen, try to add memory into it or just insert 512mb first and then oserve again if you will have the blue screen error.

1801 Microcode Patch Error
I bought a Compaq Computer, 2.0Ghz, 256MB, 20GB for my College project. When i put the power on, it restarts almost immediately (so many times repeatedly). Then after such reboots, it successfully brings a message "1801 - Microcode Patch Error" and a F1-Boot directive.

You need to replace the 2mbit bios chip used by the WinCE Evo with the 4mbit one used by the NTe and XPe Evo, then you need an add on flash module, since the onboard flash is too small. After that, just find the OS file and flash away. You can find the OS files and a utility to flash from the HP support site. You'll need a crossover ethernet cable, not a patch cable, to do the flash.
